No School Wednesday! Chiefs Super Bowl Spirit Week!
Dear BES Families,
Ok, January. We are DONE with you!!! Let's move on and get back to some routine! Oh wait...the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl so we have Spirit Week! Oh wait, we have Parent-Teacher Conferences so no school this Wednesday! Oh wait, we have Presidents' Day coming up...so no school that day either!! Oh it is getting hard to get into a routine and our kids LOVE routine! We need routine and to get back to work. I always tell the kids that we have to work hard to play hard, and we love to play, have fun, and make memories at school!
Here are some ways you can help your students with routines at home that will help them be successful at school:
1. Check your child's backpack for notes and assignments that may need to be finished.
2. Check your child's agenda book and go over it with them.
3. Pack everything up the night before to ensure nothing is left on the kitchen table!
4. Please try to drop off before 7:45am if your child is eating breakfast. We begin our morning meeting with announcements, including birthdays and the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:55. The student head to the classrooms and begin their day at 8am! Coming in late gets the day started off in a rushed manner.
We have a lot going on, but everything is listed out below! Check it out and reach out to your child's teacher or to me with any questions. It will be a GREAT Spring semester as we work together!
Thank you to our amazing PTO for decorating our foyer and commons for the Super Bowl Spirit Week!
Thank you to parent, Christi Parker, for donating our new popcorn machine and supplies!!! It is awesome and we love using it for our movie nights and special events!
Have a wonderful week and GO CHIEFS!

We love to see what our students are passionate about outside of school! Please send us a photo of your student doing something they love and are passionate about! It can be a sport, a hobby, time with beloved people, etc. Photos can be sent to the classroom teacher or directly to Mrs. McIntire at mcintires@usd416.org. Attendance and School Calendars
Receive an Attendance Email from School?
If you receive an attendance letter from school, it is meant to inform you of your student's absences or tardies. This way you can also keep track of the days gone and how to plan ahead to
miss fewer days.
When Your Child Misses School:
One week gone is approximately 7.5 hours of instruction lost in reading and in math. That doesn't include the extra time teachers provide to check for understanding and mastery of concepts so they can move on to the next concept. We see some students really struggle to get caught back up when they've missed extended time. We attempt to make it up during school hours, but your child may be required to stay after school to work with teachers or our tutors.
Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.
Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!
If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.
GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
