Principal's Message

I hope you had a nice weekend with friends and family. This week we start highlighting this month's virtue of Love. Students will learn that love isn't just for family but can be shown through acts of kindness and the way we speak with each other.

April Virtue: Love

'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:30-31)

God wants us to serve and to see the goodness in everyone we meet.

Bus Cancellation and School Closures

A decision to cancel school transportation and/or to close schools due to inclement weather is usually announced by 6:30 am. Bus and/or school cancellations are broadcasted in various media outlets including the DPCDSB website and X account as well as Stopr.ca. In addition, if your child takes the bus, creating a Stopr account will give you the option to receive texts with updates.

When listening to cancellation announcements, there are two types to listen for:

1. Buses in Zone 2 are cancelled. This means that our buses will not be running (morning and afternoon) due to dangerous road conditions but the school will remain open for the day.

2. Schools in Zone 2 are closed. This means that buses will not be running and the school will be closed to all staff and students.

End of the Day Exit Procedure

Parents/Guardians, I am asking that you continue to not block the bus way and give them ample space to leave. It has been going very smooth this year and I thank you for continue this way.

The end of day exit procedure will be as follows:

1. Bus students will be called down to load the bus 5 minutes before the end of the bell.

2. Students from upstairs will exit the school from the front door.

Our Gr. 1/2 and 3/4 classes will continue to dismiss at the side of the school.

Safe Arrival Program

We ask that parents continue to support their children in their morning routines so that your child can arrive to school on time. This ensures that your child learns an essential life skill, participates in the entire school day, and that disruptions to the learning environment for all are minimal.

If your child is going to be absent or late for any reason (illness, appointments, vacation), please report their absence through School Messenger. You can do this through their website or app (see photo). You will need to set up an account.

Nut and Other Allergy Awareness

Please be reminded that no nut products are allowed in school. We have students who have potentially fatal anaphylactic sensitivities to nut products. Please do not send peanuts, other nuts, Nutella or any other nut products including granola bars and cookies that contain nuts. Wowbutter is also not allowed as it is difficult for us to identify if it is peanut butter or not

We also have other allergies and sensitivies specific to some classes. If your child's class is one of these, the teacher will have notified you.

Head Injury Policy

When a student receives an injury/bump to the head (however minor), it is a Board Policy that we inform parents. You will be notified by our school secretary, Mrs. Smith.

Kiss and Ride Reminders

Please remember that if you have to get out of your vehicle in the Kiss and Ride Lane, then you should park your car in a designated parking space. We appreciate that you do not block the school buses and give them ample space to enter and leave.

Thank you very much to those families who follow our Kiss and Ride expectations to keep our students safe. The safety of all the children is our shared concern and priority.

Illnesses at School

Being part of a school community means interacting with a number of students and adults. We ask that if your child is showing symptoms of illness to please keep them at home. This not only lets your child recover quicker but also prevents the spread of germs around the school. Thank you for your cooperation on this.

Indoor Shoes

It's that time of year when the ground is wet and we need to keep our school clean and tidy. If you haven't done so, please send your child with a pair of indoor shoes. We recommend a pair of running shoes so you don't have to keep track of when their gym days are. Crocs and slippers are not appropriate indoor shoes, especially in the winter. In case we have an emergency and have to evacuate the building, there will not be time to change shoes. Indoor shoes can be left at school if you would like.

Uber Eats and Food Delivery

Please note that food delivery services are not allowed. This is to ensure that we are not letting strangers into our building. However, we understand that there are times of emergency when lunches are forgotten and that's ok. We are just asking that they do not become a regular occurance.

In order to ensure the safety of everyone in the building, if you are going to have to send a food delivery, please call and notify the office so we can expect it. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
