Dear MMS Families,

As we enter the final stretch of the academic year, May is a time filled with energy, celebration, and reflection. With just six weeks remaining, it's important that we stay focused and finish the school year strong. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and growth we've seen in our students throughout the year. From classroom achievements to community events, this has been a year to remember. Let’s continue to support one another and make these last few weeks meaningful, productive, and full of Mustang pride. Thank you for being a vital part of our school community!

Sincerely,

Kelly Grantham, Principal

Spring Testing

We are gearing up for our upcoming state and local assessment. These important tests help us to measure growth in reading, math, and science and provide valuable information to guide instruction. Testing will take place on May 6th, 13th, and 20th. Our 8th graders will also complete a science assessment on May 15th.

We encourage student to come to school on time, well-rested, and ready to do their best. Thank you for supporting our learners as they show what they know!

National Recognition for MMS 8th Graders!

Each winter, Junior Scholastic runs a competition titled "Where is Map Man?" This competition tasks students across the United States with answering questions to discover where the fabled Map Man is located, researching the region, and creating artwork that represents a map of Map Man's location. This year Map Man was located in Quebec, Canada. Junior Scholastic recognizes the top 25 entries out of the thousands of submissions they receive from all over the country, and incredibly two of Team Katahdin's 8th grade students received this national recognition! Congratulations to Madisson S and Allie G, who both have their names printed in May's edition of Junior Scholastic! We are so proud of you!

🎭 👏 Bravo to MMS Drama! 🎭 👏

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of The Internet is a Distract—OH LOOK, A KITTEN! for a tremendous spring show. 142 hours went into aspects of this student-led production. We want to especially thank Director Mr. Daigle and Assistant Director Mrs. Johns for their time, leadership, and expertise, which made this production possible.

Grade 7 Interdisciplinary Studies

As part of our 7th grade interdisciplinary studies unit on aquaculture, students have been investigating various species harvested along the coast of Maine. Their studies included different types of seaweed and its many uses, particularly its nutritional and culinary benefits. Students participated in a webinar with Boston-based innovator and chef Andrew Wilkinson, who shared insights on the importance of incorporating kelp into cooking and the positive impacts it can have on the environment. In addition, students created their own seaweed-based recipes and came together as a class to cook and share their dishes!

Grade 7 Social Studies

Mrs. Chase's social studies class celebrated the culmination of their Justifying Rebellions Unit with a Boston Tea Party social! Students had the opportunity to sample the seaweed teas they made in Interdisciplinary Studies, test their knowledge with Boston Tea Party BINGO, and pose with their friends with our patriotic photobooth props! A TEA-riffic time was had by all!
