We Are Crushing It!
Today, our students enjoyed a hands-on STEAM lesson with a special guest visitor who brought an authentic cider press! Before seeing the press in action, we stepped back in time to explore the history of cider. We learned that early apples were far too tart for eating, but horses pulling cargo along trade routes found them to be a delicious treat. Later, early American settlers like John Chapman—better known as Johnny Appleseed—planted orchards across the frontier specifically for cider, which served as a vital and safe source of hydration in early America. After discovering how apples got their start we had the opportunity to see the press in action. Everyone loved watching the process and enjoying a fresh, delicious cup of cider made right before their eyes. It was a fantastic (and tasty!) way to see engineering and history come alive together!
PTCA Meetings
Happy October from the PTCA!
Thank you for making this year’s fall fundraiser a success! The beautiful mums were
provided by Allen Brothers Farms, and we hope they bring the GSA community lots of
joy during this fall season. (Be on the lookout for our next fundraiser!)
The GSA teachers and staff are busy planning extra fun field trips and activities. The
PTCA is excited to support these important experiences with the money raised during
fundraisers and activities. If you’d like to get involved, please contact Taylene Givetz at
tgivetz@mrsd.org. We meet once a month via Zoom and can’t wait to meet you!
Be sure to follow us on Facebook at Gilsum STEAM Academy PTCA.
As always, thanks for being here – we appreciate you!
