GOLDEN HILLS SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
April 2026
Principal Message
Dear Golden Hills Families,
March was a fantastic month at Golden Hills! We were thrilled to welcome families on campus for our second trimester awards assemblies for both grade levels—thank you for celebrating our students’ achievements with us. Students also received their second trimester Brag Tags!
Our athletic programs are off to a great spring start! The fourth and fifth grade soccer team has begun, along with our flag football season. We also have students participating in Girls on the Run, practicing weekly. Good luck to all of our Eagles!
We hosted our first Silent Disco on March 25th as part of our second trimester challenge, and it was a huge success—students had an amazing time! Be sure to check out the video on Facebook. Third trimester is a field trip to the movies on May 26th!
March also brought some friendly competition with our March Madness Attendance Brackets. Classes competed for the best attendance, earning opportunities to taste-test different types of M&M’s as they advanced. The overall favorite was Peanut M&M’s! The winning class earned a pizza party along with their choice of a Gaga Ball Party or a VR Party—congratulations!
We are incredibly proud of Avery and Miguel for representing Golden Hills at the Countywide Spelling Bee. Great job!
As we begin the third trimester, we are focused on making the most of our learning time. Our staff has been visiting classrooms to reinforce the importance of respect and kindness. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home.
Our April referral challenge is underway: if students keep referrals at 40 or fewer schoolwide, we will celebrate with a schoolwide rally! Please note that students who receive a referral between April 1 and May 4th will not be eligible to attend. In addition, both grade levels have end-of-year behavior contracts tied to upcoming field trips. These trips are privileges, and students must meet expectations to participate.
Did you know that all classes are sending home reading passages each week? Our nightly homework expectation includes reading and practicing math facts. These passages align with classroom instruction and help prepare students for discussions and activities. We also offer optional monthly homework packets with additional practice in reading, math, science, and social studies.
We have some exciting events coming up! On April 1, we will hold our annual Talent Show—thank you to Ms. Rainbow for organizing this fun event.
On Thursday, April 2, students will participate in our Jump 4 Fitness activities, rotating through fun jumping stations around the playground.
Please remember to check the Lost and Found before Spring Break. Items will be donated over the break, and we will have them displayed during Jump 4 Fitness for easy viewing.
CAASPP ( State Testing ) is scheduled for May 4th-May 14th, we do part of a test each day. Please do not schedule any appointments during this time, it is hard on students to do make-ups, with all of our fun events that happen at this time!
As Spring Break approaches, we hope you enjoy this special time with your families. Keep an eye out—there may even be a few hidden bunnies around campus on April 2 and 3 for students to find!
Thank you for your continued support of Golden Hills.
Warm regards,
Thank you,
Kristi Napoli

Staff Appreciation Week
Please join us in celebrating National Teacher/ Staff Appreciation week the week of May 4th-8th! Our staff works very hard all year long for your student’s success!
We have a small Parent Teacher Group and we could use your HELP!
May 4-8th: Stock the Staff Room! It would be very appreciated if fourth grade families donated drinks and fifth grade families donated snacks!
Thank you for supporting our AMAZING staff at Golden Hills!
Shady Creek Field Trip for 2025-2026 school year!
Shady Creek is a three night, four day environmental camp. Our fourth grade class will be attending next year. In order to attend we must have parent volunteers to stay in the cabins with the students. These parents must be cleared through our district through the volunteer process. We will need to have the parents cleared before the end of this school year to commit to going! The reserved dates for Shady Creek are the week before our October intercession. Please begin the process so we can be sure we have enough parent volunteers.
Fourth Grade families, we will need you for next year! We need around 10 females and 10 male chaperones for the cabins. So far we have 7 volunteers. We have 5 females and 2 males.. We have requested the date of Sept. 29th- Oct. 2nd, this will be confirmed before the end of the year.
Please click the link below to sign up to volunteer: Link
Attendance
Our goal is to have 95% average daily attendance. We are currently at 95.11% WOOT WOOT!
The class in the month of April with the best attendance will win a VR party!
We had a March Madness Attendance Challenge! We are waiting for independent study packers before we can announce the official winner, it is very close between Mrs. Dailey and Mr. Benson’s class! ! They win a pizza party and are the first class to use our GAGA Ball pit or VR Party!
If your child is absent please call the school office to let them know the reason so that your child can possibly be excused. Also, if your child will be absent you can request independent study. Your child will receive work to do and if the work is completed, your child will receive credit for attendance and will not be counted as absent. If you have questions, please call the school office.
Third Trimester Attendance Challenge is a field trip to the movies:
Students must have less than 16 absences for the entire year or less than 6 absences for the third trimester 3/9/26-5/22/26. Our field trip is scheduled for May 26th!
Attendance is very important, if your student is not at school, they cannot learn. Thank you for your support!
Social Media
We want to remind you of the impact social media, especially Snapchat, can have on students at school. We’ve seen an increase in conflicts, distractions, and even cases of cyberbullying that start at home online and carry over into the classroom. Because messages and images on Snapchat disappear quickly, it can be difficult to monitor what is being shared. This can lead to unsafe situations, misunderstandings, and hurt feelings among students. We encourage you to closely monitor your student’s social media use and have open conversations about online safety, kindness, and responsibility. By working together, we can help create a safer and more positive school environment for all students.
Phones are not allowed on Golden Hills campus, we have had students using phones and taking pictures around campus. Students' phones will be taken to the office and a referral will be given if this is happening.
Interesting Book on Social Media: The Anxious Generation, Book by Jonathan Haidt

Family Reminders:
TOYS and items from home should not be brought to school! We have had a big increase of students bringing items from home. We will be collecting these and leaving them in the office for families to pick up! We are not responsible for any lost, stolen or broken items.
Students should not be dropped off before 7:45 am, We do not have supervision until 7:45 am. We have a morning club for students who are earlier than 7:45. Our crosswalk walker staff member starts at 8 am, and walkers should arrive after 8 am.
We have minimum days on Friday’s and school gets out at 1:45.
Spelling Bee:
Congratulations to Avery and Miguel for representing Golden Hills at the county wide spelling bee.
Optional Homework Packets:
We will have our April optional homework packets available in the office starting Friday. Students can come by the office and grab them.
Specific Needs Requests for 2026-2027
Due to the nature of our program at Golden Hills, where students may have several teachers in a given day, we don’t take teacher requests. Instead, we value your input on the specific needs your child may have that will assist us in making appropriate placements. Please feel free to pick up a form in the Main Office at Golden Hills between April 1st and May 12th. Forms are due May 12th.
4th Grade Play – Gold Dust or Bust on May 20th
SAVE the DATE: We’re excited to invite you to our 4th Grade play, Gold Dust or Bust, on Tuesday, May 20th from 5:00–6:00 PM at the Oroville State Theatre. This is our first time performing at this wonderful venue, and all of our 4th grade students will be participating in the show. We can’t wait to see you there for this special performance!
Staff Appreciation Week in May!
Please join us in celebrating National Teacher/ Staff Appreciation week the week of May 5th-9th! Our staff works very hard all year long for your student’s success!
For staff appreciation week we want to Stock the Staff Room to show appreciation to our staff members. If we all pitch in this makes a light load for all and not a heavy load of work for a few.
We are asking fourth grade families to “Stock the Fridge” with drinks for our staff for the week of May 6-10th. Drinks could be soda, teas, sparkling water, gatorades etc. Help us by donating drinks for the staff. These can be dropped off anytime to the office.
We are asking fifth grade families to “Stock up the Snacks” for our staff members. These snacks could be pretzels, granola bars, protein bars, string cheese etc.. These can be dropped off anytime at the office.
We appreciate your support!

Wellness Center Message
Did you know we have a Wellness Center? The Wellness Center offers a food pantry, clothing and hygiene products, community resource hub, reset space, small group and individual counseling services, breakfast and lunch bunches, access to our School Counselor and Wellness Coach, and computers that parents can use.
The Wellness Coach and I are providing lessons on internet safety prior to spring break. Students will be learning not to share personal identifying information online and why it can be unsafe to share these things. We will be talking with them about internet predators and what to do if they come across someone who is talking to them about what we identify as “red flag” information. We encourage students not to talk to people they don’t know in person online. We also encourage them when possible to make their social media private and to always get permission from their parents/guardian before accepting friend requests and talking with people they don’t know in person online. If someone is making them uncomfortable by sharing “red flag” information with them they are encouraged to tell their parent/guardian and to block and report that person online.
In the month of April we will be starting a number of new counseling groups, breakfast clubs and lunch bunches. We will also be offering lessons on sportsmanship to all of our classrooms.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email rwalker@palermok8.org or phone at 530-532-6000 ext 4601.
Sincerely,
Rainbow Walker
