Ballots must be postmarked by Feb. 10, 2026 and do not require postage. Lake Stevens’ 24-hour secure ballot drop box is located at 1800 Main Street near the boat launch. Ballots must be in the box by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Lake Stevens School District has two levy renewals on the Feb. 10 ballot—an Educational Programs and Operations Levy and a Technology Levy. Local levies bridge the gap between what the state funds and the actual cost to operate schools. These measures replace the levies approved in 2022, which expire in 2026. They are not new taxes.
Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy
This four-year renewal helps keep our schools safe, well-staffed, and supportive for every student. It funds:
Safety and security systems to keep students and staff protected
Hiring quality educators to support teaching and learning
Educator and nurse salaries to attract and retain great staff
Student mental health and family engagement support staff
Early learning programs and extracurricular opportunities, including athletics and music
Technology Levy
This renewal continues our investment in safe and reliable technology for students and staff. It funds:
Devices for every student and staff member
Classroom technology and professional learning
Technical support, network upgrades, and cyber security
These levies also support programs that prepare students for college and career success—helping them explore interests, develop skills, and graduate ready for the next step.

Respect
Respect means treating others with kindness, consideration, and understanding. It involves listening to your teachers, classmates, and staff, valuing their opinions, and acknowledging their differences. Respect also means following the rules, taking responsibility for your actions, and creating a positive, supportive environment where everyone can learn and grow.
Parent Drop Off
Just a reminder that school starts at 9:35am. If you are dropping a student off after that time they will need to be signed in by an authorizing adult in the office. For the safety of all students please do not dop them off out front when there is no staff suppervision.
Smart Watches & Calling Home
As a reminder, students should not be using smartwatches to contact home. If your student is not feeling well, it is imperative that they are seen in the health room. As a school, we are actively working to monitor any widespread illness that may be running through our campus. When students simply contact home to be picked up by a family member through their watch or phone, we are not able to accurately monitor the health of our building. This also helps us to ensure that we know which students are not feeling well and allows our health team to take vitals as needed. Please remind your student to go to the nurse if they are feeling under the weather, and our health room staff will make contact with families as needed.
Run Club
The Sunnycrest Run Club is back and we've had a lot of excited students participating! Every year, we set a school wide goal destination. This year, we are hoping to run the same amount of miles it would take to reach LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, California! After the first 3 weeks of Run Club, we have run a total of 274 miles as a school! Only 989 miles to go! Way to go Sunnycrest! When we reach our goal, we will celebrate with a school wide LEGO dress up day!
The socks and mittens donation day in January was a huge success! Sunnycrest was able to donate many socks and mittens to the VOA Lake Stevens Community Resource Center. Thank you to all the students who donated and helped make a difference in our community. Look for more Run Club donation opportunities later this year.
Run Club would not be successful without the help of our parent volunteers. Thank you so much for volunteering your time and making this activity a success for Sunnycrest students.
Health Room Happenings
- Lake Stevens School District Policy No 5475.6 states: To resume participation following an illness and/or injury serious enough to require medical care, a participating student must present to the school officials a physician’s written release.
- Please pack spare clothing in your student’s backpack. At times, students have accidents, spills, or torn clothing. The health room tries to provide a change when possible; however is not able to provide new clothes for weather-related wet/muddy clothes. Please be mindful to return any clothing provided for your student after laundering. We also are accepting donations for pants and shirts if you have any available.
The new year can be full of resolutions and Tik Toks of what is healthy or best. I thought it would be fun to see what medical myths are factual, are false or somewhere in between. Feed a cold, starve a fever: This is a harmful myth; a person should eat nutritious foods and stay hydrated during both illnesses. It used to be believed that eating could raise your body’s temperature and be detrimental if you already have a fever. Spicy foods cause ulcers: Spicy foods can aggravate existing ulcers, but bacteria is the usual cause. Using Hydrogen Peroxide to clean a wound: While using hydrogen peroxide on wounds kills bacteria, it also damages healthy skin cells and cells that help your immune system. This causes the healing process to slow down and increases risk of infection. Instead, it is recommended to clean wounds with clean water and mild soap. It’s important to change bandages daily or when they become dirty; and to keep wounds clean and dry. Tilting head back for a nosebleed: This can cause blood to go down the back of the throat. Instead, remain sitting up and gently pinch the soft parts of the nose together. Check after 5 minutes to see if the bleeding has stopped. Sitting too close to the TV damages your eyes: This myth is false, though watching too much TV can lead to eye fatigue and dry eyes. Air hand dryers are more hygienic than paper towels: Air hand dryer in public restroom don’t remove germs as well as paper towels and may spread germs around. Applying a hot pack on a sprain or injury: Apply a cold pack to reduce swelling the “RICE” method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) is the recommended treatment.
Counselor's Corner
Dear Sunnycrest Families,
Here are the updates regarding counseling services at Sunnycrest:
Counseling Lessons at School
Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Students are learning Bullying Prevention skills, including using kind words, recognizing safe vs. unsafe choices, asking for help, and being an “upstander” when they see someone being treated unkindly.
Grades 2–5: Students are engaging in lessons around Harassment and Interrupting Hate Speech. We are learning how words can impact others, how to stay safe and speak up, and how to interrupt unkind or harmful language. These lessons emphasize empathy, responsibility, and using our voices in positive ways.
Join Our Family Connection/SEL Jeopardy Challenge!
Strong family connections play a powerful role in helping children build confidence, emotional safety, and resilience. Small, everyday moments—listening, encouraging words, shared laughter, and calm problem-solving—help reinforce the skills students are learning at school.
To support positive family connections, we are excited to invite families to participate in our Family Connection/SEL Jeopardy Challenge!
This fun, low-pressure game includes challenge squares with easy activities that help build connection, kindness, and a positive home environment. Families can complete the activities at their own pace — no pressure, just fun and togetherness. The goal is not perfection, but connection
The Jeopardy game board and instructions are attached; a paper copy will also be sent home on Feb 3/Tuesday in your student's Tuesday folder. See how many challenges you can complete and how many points you can earn by the end of February! We hope you’ll join us for this fun opportunity to connect and grow together!
We would love it if you would share your family pictures as you play! You can email them to me at esra_yilmaz@lkstevens.wednet.edu
With care,
Mrs. Esra -- School Counselor
