LISD Families,

As we enter the holiday season, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to you and your families. This past week our district recognized Veterans Day alongside our campuses who held events to honor our Veterans. We are proud that our schools serve as places where our communities can come together and recognize that strong public schools and strong communities go hand in hand.

Thank you for the countless ways you contribute to our school communities, whether it’s cheering from the stands, volunteering in classrooms, or simply offering a kind word to a teacher or staff member. Your support and involvement truly make a difference.

Wishing you and your loved ones a restful and joyful holiday break filled with connection, gratitude, and celebration. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve your children and be part of their educational journey.

As the district continues to transition to single-member districts, Michelle Alkhatib will hold her current seat (Place 6) until the term ends in May 2026. Single-member districts 4 (Lewisville area) and 5 (Flower Mound area) will be on the ballot in May 2026.

Mill Street Reassignment

The LISD Board of Trustees on Nov. 10 voted to enact the proposed Mill Street Turnaround Plan (TAP), which will reassign students to neighboring elementary schools in the district beginning the 2026-27 school year. The Board’s approved TAP will now be submitted to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) by Nov. 21 where it will be considered for TEA approval by the end of January 2026.

Become a Mentor

Mentoring is statistically one of the most impactful volunteer roles, providing both academic and emotional support to students in need. LISD partners with Communities in Schools to place mentors thourghout the district. According to CIS, studies have shown that students engaged in a high quality mentoring relationship are more likely to achieve higher grades, exhibit academic and emotional confidence, engage in positive relationships, and pursue post-secondary education. Visit CISNT.org for details on how to get involved.

From the earliest grades, LISD teachers are focused on ensuring every student has a strong academic foundation. One of the tools that supports this work is iReady, a program used in reading and math that helps teachers understand what each student knows and where they may need additional support. While iReady is just one part of classroom learning, it plays an important role in helping teachers deliver more intentional, targeted instruction. This early focus on academic readiness helps build the skills and confidence students need to thrive and adapt for their future, contributing to LISD's constant above state average graduation rates and National Merit recognition.

ChatGPT Student Access Change

Due to recent changes in OpenAI’s Terms of Service, LISD will remove student access to ChatGPT on all district-managed devices beginning Monday, Dec. 1, 2025. The updated terms require users under 18 to have verified parental permission, and because our filtering system cannot manage permissions by individual age, platforms designated for 18+ users must be restricted districtwide. Going forward, LISD will support the use of Google’s Notebook LM, our approved AI platform. Notebook LM was selected for its alignment with instructional goals, strong privacy practices, and age-appropriate design. Staff and students will receive training and guidance to ensure responsible and effective use of AI tools in the classroom.

New Transportation App

LISD has begun using a new transportation app districtwide called Stopfinder, a convenient, easy-to-use tool designed to help families stay connected and informed about their child’s bus service. Learn more about Stopfinder’s features like how to login, viewing and tracking your child’s bus, and sharing your child’s bus schedule with additional caregivers by watching this short video. You can review helpful StopFinder FAQs for quick answers.

LISD Receives "A" FIRST Rating for Superior Achievement at 98 out of 100, the highest the district has ever received.

This is the state’s highest financial accountability rating, recognizing districts that demonstrate excellence in financial management and transparency. School FIRST was established by the Texas Education Agency to ensure public schools are accountable not only for student learning but also for the effective and responsible use of taxpayer dollars, an area in which LISD continues to excel. The rating comes after the district's efforts in reducing costs through central administration budget reductions; staffing adjustments to account for enrollment decline; and schedule changes at the middle school level.
