The Little Judges Ledger

August 17-21, 2026

The LittleJudges LedgerAugust 17-21, 2026

Dear Virginia Avenue Families,

What a great first week back! Our Little Judges spent time building relationships with teachers and classmates and learning the expectations, routines, and procedures that will help us have a successful year.

Our theme this year is Keep Climbing! We want our students to understand that learning and growing aren't always easy. Sometimes we take big steps, sometimes small ones, and sometimes we need help along the way. What matters is that we keep trying, support one another, and keep climbing toward our goals!

And one of the most important parts of climbing toward our goals is simply showing up! Every day at school is another opportunity to learn, grow, and take the next step. That makes our first school-wide challenge a perfect fit for our Keep Climbing mindset—attendance!

🍧Kona Ice Attendance Challenge Starts This Week!

Daily attendance matters—especially in elementary school. Even a few missed days can add up quickly and make it harder for students to keep pace with new learning. Whenever possible, we ask families to schedule vacations, appointments, and other activities around the school calendar so students don't miss valuable instructional time.

Thanks to another generous donation from the J2W Foundation through the Winchester Campaign for Grade Level Reading, the Kona Ice Truck Attendance Challenge is back!

  • 📅 The competition runs each week from Thursday through Wednesday until the end of September.
  • 🏫 Schools across the division will compete for strong attendance.
  • 🍧 And, of course, Kona Ice is on the line!

📱 Need to Report an Absence?

When your child does need to miss school, families should report the absence electronically through the PowerSchool Web Portal.

👉 Report a Student Absence

Please remember that reporting an absence lets us know why your child is not at school, but does not necessarily make the absence excused.

Help us start the year strong by making being at school, on time, every day a priority. Every day counts—and we want all of our Little Judges here and ready to Keep Climbing! 🏔️

🏠 School to Home

Keep the learning going at home! This week, ask your child a few of the questions below to help them think about why we have rules and expectations at school—not just what the rules are.

1. How do we walk in the hallway and why do we walk that way?

2. Why do we raise our hands in class instead of shouting out?

3. Let's pretend we are creating a new classroom rule. What would help everyone learn better?
