DEAR FARMINGTON VIEW FAMILIES

We've had so many exciting things happening around the building. Several more after school clubs started this week! We had the Harlem Wizards come out last week for a short assembly for the students. Students are participating in our Innovation Workshop space every other week where they are getting access to STEAM lessons.

Some upcoming items that are on families' minds:

Our spirit days are on Fridays this year. We will be dressing up as our favorite book characters on Friday 10/27.

Guidelines for dressing up as favorite book character on 10/27:

  • No masks, face paint, props/accessories
  • Dress for the weather - shoes for outside and PE
  • Outfit should not interfere with the student's ability to participate in the school day
  • Students need to be able to use the restroom on their own without needing assistance with clothing

We will not be dressing up on 10/31.

Some teachers may have a short harvest celebration on 10/31. Please feel free to connect directly with your teacher regarding this.

Thank you,

Mrs. Echeverria

October Family STEAM Challenge

If intersted in Particpating in the FAMILY October STEAM Challenge please look for the packet that will be coming home! You will be able to use the QR code to send pictures of the work you do as a family! We will be posting these in our building and on our websites!

Family challenges are a fun, optional activity for our families at Farmington View. They will be available each month. If you choose to participate, find a day to complete the challenge with your family. As you complete the challenge, fill out this paper. Once you have completed the challenge and filled out the paper, turn it into the office. On the last day of the challenge, we will randomly draw 1 paper. These families will earn a STEAM related prize. Students will receive their prize the following Monday.

For our first challenge, we will be using the scientific method. In the scientific method, a scientist will form a hypothesis about a given problem and the hypothesis is tested with an experiment. The scientific method is all about studying and learning things right around you.

Your Mission: Your family will use the scientific method to investigate which liquid will dissolve candy corn the fastest.

Dependent Variable: The time it takes to dissolve the candy

Independent Variable: The type of liquid

Supplies:

  • Candy Corn

    • Need some candy corn? Visit the office to grab a bag of candy corn to use for your experiment!

  • 3-4 Different Liquids

    • You could use water, vinegar, oil, seltzer, lemon juice, soda, or anything else!

      • We recommend water and oil

  • Clear cups

  • Timer

    • Recomendamos agua y aceite

  • Vasos transparentes

  • Temporizador “reloj”

Healthy Snacks Healthy Snacks

We highly encourage healthy snacks for student snack time. Students get to take a snack to their first recess. This is a time for them to re-energize and re-fuel themselves.

Water bottles should only contain water. No juice, coffee, energy drinks, etc. We want to make sure that students are minimizing their sugar intake during the school day in order to promote a better opportunity for learning.

Make sure to send plastic or metal water bottles. No glass, as when dropped it breaks and can be dangerous.

SERVICES OFFERED FOR TALENTED AND GIFTED (TAG) STUDENTS

Attendance matters Attendance matters

Regular, on-time attendance is essential to students’ education. Too many absences - excused or unexcused - can keep students from succeeding in school and in life. Did you know that missing just two days of school per month means a student loses 10% of their instruction for the school year? Learn more about the importance of attendance, download an attendance tracker, and see support strategies on our website. Of course, attendance does not take priority over your health! If you are too sick for school, please stay home and access your work remotely until you are feeling better.
Absences add up - 9 or less is best!

what are we focused on at Farmington View? what are we focused on at Farmington View?

At Farmington View Elementary School, we know, value, and empower every student. With that, our school is focusing on phonics, and phonics in Spanish for our K-1 Spanish speaking students. Additionally, in math we are focusing on high leverage strategies and number sense during our math blocks. As a STEAM school our focus is on providing our students access to integrated STEAM lessons on a regular basis through our innovation workshop. In order to support an environment where students feel valued and empowered our school is integrating social emotional learning by providing students access to lessons daily. These steps will ensure all our students are successful through their K-12 school years and have the opportunities to achieve their dreams!
