Week 9: October 5th-9th

Jag WireWeek 9: October 5th-9th

A Message from the Principal

We are heading into the final stretch of Term 1, which means our first report card of the school year is just around the corner! This is an important time for our Jags to finish strong, stay focused, and take pride in the work they have accomplished so far this year. We encourage you to check Skyward, talk with your child about their progress, and help them identify any assignments or areas that need a little extra attention before the term comes to a close.

As we get closer to breaks, we also typically see an increase in student behaviors, so we want to remind our Jags about the importance of making good choices all the way through the finish line. Please take a few minutes to talk with your child about maintaining appropriate boundaries, respecting personal space and property, and showing respect for our school and the people in it. We continue to see some challenges during lunch, including students playing with food, taking items that do not belong to them, and not following staff directions. We appreciate your partnership in reminding our Jags that respect and responsibility are expectations every day.

This week, students will also participate in an Advisory lesson focused on their Beginning-of-Year MAP scores. Students will review their results, reflect on their current progress, and set goals for the remainder of the school year. We encourage families to follow the directions below to access MAP scores in Skyward and have a conversation with your child about their goals and growth.

A huge congratulations to our volleyball teams and coaches on an incredible season! Thank you to Coach Keshavarzi, Coach Martinez, Coach Pringle, and Coach Rosar for all of the time, energy, and dedication they poured into our girls this season. Our volleyball Jags worked hard, represented Sartartia with pride, and gave us plenty to celebrate!

A few other important updates for families: Fort Bend ISD has released an updated instructional calendar, and the last day of school will now be May 26. Be sure to check out the updated calendar below.

And finally, a HUGE thank you to our Sartartia PTO! They have raised an incredible $18,920 to support our campus and our students. We are so grateful for their continued partnership and everything they do for SMS. We hope you will join us for our October PTO meeting this week!

Let's finish Term 1 strong, Jags! We are proud of the growth we have seen so far and are excited to see what our students accomplish throughout the rest of the school year.

Your Proud Principal,

Cholly Oglesby

Walk & Roll to School Day

Walk & Roll to School Day is October 7, 2025. Students are encouraged to walk or roll to school with parents or friends. Walking to school enables children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime. This physical activity will also get the brain ready for learning.

Information & Updates Information & Updates

Academic Integrity

Last Friday, our students participated in a lesson focused on academic integrity and what it means to take ownership of their learning and demonstrate their own work. Students discussed ways to uphold academic integrity, as well as how to avoid academic dishonesty, including cheating, plagiarism, and the inappropriate use of AI.

We have attached a copy of the lesson for you to review and discuss with your child. We encourage you to take a few minutes to talk with your child about what academic integrity looks like and why it is an important part of being a successful student.

At Sartartia Middle School, we hold our Jags to a high standard as we continue to build and maintain a culture of excellence. We expect students to take pride in their work, make responsible choices, and demonstrate integrity in every classroom. When academic dishonesty occurs, we will address it appropriately and assign any necessary consequences in accordance with campus and district expectations.

Thank you for partnering with us in reinforcing these important expectations at home. Together, we can help our students understand that how they learn and how they demonstrate their learning matters just as much as the final grade.

Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Training

There is a growing threat to the health and safety of our youth that we want to bring to your attention. Fentanyl poisoning is the leading cause of death for people ages 18 to 45 in the U.S. Fentanyl is a man-made Schedule II narcotic that has reached a growing number of communities of all sizes across Texas and has impacted so many lives. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), within the last two years, teen overdose deaths related to Fentanyl have tripled. On October 23, 2026, our students will participate in the Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness lesson. The State of Texas (HB3908) requires school districts to annually provide students in grades 6–12 with research-based instruction on fentanyl abuse prevention and drug poisoning awareness. The required instruction in fentanyl prevention and drug poisoning awareness must include the following:

  • Suicide prevention
  • Prevention of abuse and addiction to fentanyl
  • Awareness of local school and community resources and any processes involved in accessing those resources
  • Health education that includes information about substance use and abuse, including youth substance use and abuse

If you would like to view the lesson and learn more, please visit the FBISD Fentanyl Poisoning

Awareness Webpage. We ask that you take time to talk with your child regarding the facts and dangers of Fentanyl Poisoning. Please contact your child’s grade-level administrator if you have

questions.

MAP Growth Scores

Your child's NWEA MAP Growth scores are now available in Skyward in the Test Result tile. These assessments are given during the school year to help teachers understand what your child knows and what they are ready to learn next. For help accessing scores, please see the attached Skyward Job Aid for Parents. This year’s MAP Growth scores are based on updated national norms. The new national norms make sure your child’s MAP Growth results reflect how students across the country are performing today, giving teachers a more accurate picture for setting growth goals.

Stopfinder App

Fort Bend ISD is relaunching the Stopfinder app to help families stay informed about their student’s bus transportation. FBISD's Transportation Department has worked to improve the functionality, reliability, and overall user experience of the app.

Stopfinder provides parents with bus route information, arrival times and confirmation that their student is on the correct bus. Students who receive district transportation will scan their district-issued ID badge when getting on and off the bus. The badges will also help bus drivers ensure students are on the right bus.

Stopfinder email invitations will be sent to parents and guardians on October 1. The invitation will include a link to download and access the Stopfinder app.

Beginning Monday, September 28, all students are expected to wear their district-issued ID badges at school and on the bus. In addition to transportation, the badges support campus security and can be used for cafeteria and library transactions.

Visit www.fortbendisd.com/stopfinder for additional information.

Thank you for your partnership with our district to keep students safe and families informed.
