Principal's Message
October is one of our favorite months at Hiteon—and for good reason! We have so many exciting events coming up that we can’t wait to share with you.
Next week kicks off the Scholastic Book Fair in our library! Your student should have brought home a flyer highlighting some of the amazing books available. With so few bookstores around, this is such a special opportunity for students to browse and discover new favorites. Purchasing is optional, but every student will get the chance to visit the fair and see books they may not find in our school library.
On October 8th, we’ll celebrate International Walk and Roll to School Day. Be sure to check this newsletter for details. One of the highlights? My brother-in-law will be out front playing the bagpipes as students walk through the crisp, foggy October morning—it’s always a magical start to the day!
Then, mark your calendars for Picture Day on October 14th and Trunk or Treat on October 24th—one of my all-time favorite Hiteon traditions.
We’ll also be holding Parent-Teacher Conferences October 15–17. You should have already received an invite to sign up for the time that works best for you. Our goal is always 100% participation because these conversations are such an important part of supporting your child’s learning and growth.
At Hiteon, we feel incredibly fortunate to spend our days with your children. They amaze us with their kindness and curiosity every single day. Thank you for sharing them with us—and happy October!

🔔 In the Door by 7:44 AM! 🔔
Why 7:44? Because at 7:45 am, the learning fun begins! Being in the classroom by 7:44 means your child is ready to roll when the bell rings. Every Minute Matters! Arrive on time = start the day with a smile.
No rushing, no missing morning fun. Builds habits that help kids shine for a lifetime.
Tips to Beat the Clock: Pick out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. Set an earlier “leave the house” time than you think.
Try to be on campus by 7:35 am for a calm start.
Please note that the doors will close at 7:45 a.m., and students arriving after this time will be counted as tardy.
Let’s make mornings smooth and start every day strong!

Our Counselor, Sarah Chartz, is rolling out the red carpet for the classroom with the best attendance each week or most improved. Once the red carpet is out and the disco lights and music begins, it becomes a dance party.

What Parents Should Know About E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety
Electric-assisted bicycles (e-bikes) and electric scooters (e-scooters) are becoming increasingly popular with students as a means of getting to and from school — and we’re seeing more accidents. It’s important for families to understand Oregon law regarding e-bikes and e-scooters.
Minimum age: Riders must be at least 16 years old to operate an e-bike or e-scooter.
Sidewalk use: E-bikes and e-scooters cannot be ridden on sidewalks. Riders must use bike lanes or share the road with traffic.
Helmet use: Helmets are strongly recommended for e-bike riders and required for all ages on e-scooters.
Vehicle classification: If an e-bike exceeds 1,000 watts or goes faster than its class allows, it can be classified as a motorcycle. Gas-powered bikes with engines over 50cc or capable of speeds over 30 mph are also considered motorcycles and require a license, registration and insurance.
Speed limits: E-scooters are limited to 15 mph. E-bikes must stay within the speed limits defined by their class.
Before your child hops on an e-bike or e-scooter, make sure they understand the rules and ride responsibly. Take a look at this video produced by Beaverton Police Department on bike and e-scooter safety.
For more details, visit the Oregon Micromobility, Moped and Mini Motorcycle Guide.
Let’s work together to ensure our kids are riding safely and legally.

🦷Free Dental Services Offered at Hiteon🦷
The Virginia Garcia Dental team has served the Beaverton School District by providing free dental assessments, sealants, and fluoride to children in the district for more than 10 years now. This year, Hiteon is included as one of the 23 BSD schools this year. These services are target to students in grades K, 1, 2, 3.
The scheduled dates for Hiteon are 10/30, 12/4, 2/18, 5/18. Please mark your calendars.
A few weeks prior to the above dates, we will send an information sheet and consent form home to families (in English and Spanish). The signed consent form allows children to receive the free dental assessment, sealants, and fluoride, or decline all services.

👚 Lost & Found 👕
Please have your child(ren) take a look at the Lost & Found carts if they are missing items (sweatshirts, jackets, hats, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc). You are also welcome to stop by the school to take a look. The carts are located near the front office by the restrooms and will also be brought out behind the school most Fridays at dismissal.
Items labeled with your student’s full name (or last name and first initial) are easily returned to their owner in the classroom. It brings us so much joy to reunite a lost item with its owner. 😀 If you haven’t already, please take a moment to label your student’s items, especially those which are easily removed. Lots of clothing items now come with a specific area to write your child's name, which makes it easy to find & return to them.
Hiteon Elementary has a 30-day Lost and Found Policy. The Lost and Found carts will be cleaned out after the end of each month. Unclaimed items are donated to the Beaverton School District Clothes For Kids organization to help district families in need. Please be sure to check the cart for missing items before they are donated!

Volunteer Background Check System
If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system over the summer and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.
Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
