A Message from the Principal
Hello Falcon Family!
Most of our 3rd - 5th grade students completed the STAAR Interim assessments. Students who were absent on testing days may be tested when they return. Over the next couple of weeks, our Emergent Bilingual students will take TELPAS assessments. Please see the calendar below for specific testing days. If your child is testing, please be read our Falcon Tip of the Month (located in this newsletter).
Love is definitely in the air! Thank you to all families who participated in our Valentine's Day festivities! If you sent items or attended the class parties, purchased a Candy Gram to brighten someone's day while support our PTA, dressed your child in a special outfit, or told your child you love them before sending them off to school, you are appreciated. We LOVE our CE families! 💚
Did you know that with our students currently enrolled at CE, there are more than 20 different languages spoken in homes?! That's amazing! We would like for all of our students to have the opportunity to learn about the diverse cultures of our very own families! CE will host our first Multicultural Family Night on March 4th, and we need YOU to make this night a success. Please see the Interest Flyer below.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please contact me at jbovan@ldisd.net or call the school between 8 AM and 4 PM Monday through Friday. We are here to help!
Thank you,

Counselor's Corner
Hello CE Families!
Our bullying lessons are finished, but awareness continues with anti-bullying posters the Kindness Club has hung through the hallways. All students should now know what to do if someone is being bullied- Stop! Support. Report. All students know that they don't want to be the reason another student is too sad or scared to come to school or can't focus on learning while at school.
This week, our Kindness Club Cupids sprinkled the halls with Valentine's hearts with encouraging messages that go along with the new lesson topic: growth mindset and perseverance.
This is all about becoming our own cheerleader- "I can do this!" or "I can't do this...YET." (but with practice, I can). Here are some great growth mindset videos to watch and learn with your child!
Did you know that we literally create pathways in our brain as we think the same negative things over and over? The great news is that science says we can forge new paths as we learn to think new positive things! And we're never too old to change our minds- literally!
Here are some growth mindset statements we can tell ourselves. Adults need them too- especially to nurture their inner child who may have received negative messages about their capabilities and potential.
To prepare, take 5 deep breaths while tracing your fingers, breathing in as you trace up each finger and out as you trace down. A trick to help us take 5 breaths instead of just one or two (which generally doesn't work).
Then we do finger tap affirmations- touching each finger to the thumb one at a time while saying 4-syllable phrases. Which one will be your child's favorite? Which is yours?
I am okay.
I'll be okay.
Things will work out.
Take a deep breath.
I can do this!
I can be brave.
I’ll try new things.
I’ll try again.
I’ll keep trying.
Make a new plan.
Mistakes are good.
Mistakes teach me.
I'm a great kid!
I am awesome!
I'm a reader!
I'm good at (math). etc.
What else can you add??? What does your child need to say or remember? The possibilities are endless!
Well wishes,
Monica Gonzalez

Have a conversation with your child about a time that you have practiced Habit 5 by seeking first to understand, then be understood. Encourgae your child to to seek first to understand when they are playing with their siblings or friends. Make up scenarios for your child to practice seeking first to understand, then be understood.
