🚌 3rd Grade Field Trip: "Let's Go Science"
Our 3rd-grade students are headed to the Mayo Performing Arts Center tomorrow, Monday, January 12th! This exciting show explores the wonders of science through fun demonstrations and experiments.
Arrival: Please ensure students arrive at school by 8:25 AM.
Departure: Buses will leave promptly at 8:45 AM.
Return: Students are expected to return to Roosevelt by 12:00 PM.
Expectations: All school rules apply during the trip. To ensure everyone stays engaged, cell phones and smartwatches must remain in lockers or backpacks.
Any student not attending the trip is still expected to come to school; arrangement have been made with an alternative location to complete schoolwork.
💻 Winter STAR Assessments
Over the next two weeks, our students will be participating in the Winter STAR assessments for Reading and Math. These benchmarks are an important tool for our teachers to measure growth and tailor instruction to meet each student's needs.
Testing will take place between January 12th and January 23rd.
You can support your child by ensuring they regularly get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time.
We use this data to celebrate progress and identify the "next steps" in your child's learning journey!
🎵 Save the Date: 3rd Grade/After School Chorus Winter Concert!
We are so excited to announce that our 3rd-grade students are getting ready to shine at our annual Winter Concert! This year’s theme is “Winter Around the World,” featuring a wonderful showcase of songs from many different cultures. Our students have been working incredibly hard in music class, and we can’t wait for you to see their talents on display.
When: Thursday, January 29th, 2026
Where: Manville High School
Time: The show begins at 6:30 PM. Students and after-school chorus members should arrive by 6:15 PM.
Safety Note: For student safety, a parent or guardian must sign each child in and out of the performance.
What to Wear: To help our performers look their best, we ask that students wear "clean and neat" concert attire in White, Black, Red, or Blue. This can include blouses, collared shirts, sweaters, slacks, khakis, or dresses. We ask that students wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) and avoid jeans, sweatpants, or graphic tees. If your child has long hair, please pull it back so they can easily see the music director and the audience. Optional red hair bows are a fun way to add some extra spirit!
We are looking forward to a musical trip around the world! If you have any questions regarding the performance, please feel free to reach out to our music teacher, Mrs. Maldonado-Gorsak, at nmaldonado-gorsak@manvillesd.org.
🔦 Weekly Highlights
🏫 Transition Back From Winter Break!
🎒 Every Day Counts at Roosevelt!
As we settle back into our school routines this January, we want to share a gentle reminder about the power of consistent attendance. Showing up every day truly matters for our students’ academic success and their social-hearted growth. Whether it’s participating in a class discussion or bonding with friends on the playground, these daily moments build the foundation for long-term success.
Did you know that missing even 10% of the school year—about 18 days, or just two days a month—can make it harder for students to keep up with their learning? At Roosevelt, we want every student to feel engaged and supported. You can help keep your student on track by building strong morning routines and staying connected with us about your child’s well-being. If your family is facing challenges that make getting to school difficult, please reach out to our teachers or counselors—we are here to partner with you to ensure every student can be here and thrive. Let’s work together to make every day count!
🐴 January Walking School Bus Success!
💛 Midyear Roosevelt Road Rally 💙
We had an incredible time this past Friday, January 9th, as our students and staff came together for our Mid-Year Roosevelt Road Rally! The energy in the multi-purpose room was electric as we focused on the character traits that make Roosevelt such a special place to learn. To mark the occasion, every class worked together to "build" a character snowman for their classroom door.
During the rally, classes earned different pieces of their snowman by completing fun, collaborative challenges. They balanced snowballs on spoons to show Responsibility, navigated hula hoop passes to demonstrate Trustworthiness, and even engaged in trivia to explore the concept of Fairness. From sharing kind words during our Caring snowball exchange to creating brand-new school spirit chants for Good Citizenship, it was fun to see our school community put our school values into action. We are so proud of the teamwork and spirit shown by everyone!
⭐💙 Counselor's Corner
January Counseling Focus: Responsibility & Emotional Management
In January, our counseling lessons will focus on building responsibility and managing emotions. Students will work together to define what responsibility means and use a decision-making chart to practice making responsible choices. They will also explore healthy ways to manage their emotions and create a personal list of coping strategies. Practicing these skills helps students use them effectively during times of anger, sadness, anxiety, or stress.
