Lions Leading! Recognizing effective instructional practices!
Culturally Responsive Teaching
I am excited to share a wonderful example of culturally responsive teaching in action at Lincoln! This week, Mr. Viera led a unique and engaging lesson that connected students to history in a personal way. Students had the opportunity to carve their names using historical languages, drawing connections between their current era and ancient cultures.
This hands-on experience not only deepened their understanding of language and history but also allowed them to explore their identities and make meaningful connections to the past. A big thank you to Mr. Viera for creating such an impactful learning experience for our students!
Smore Language Access
Smartphone Interactions and Learning Experiences (Project SMILE)
We are excited to inform you that SMMUSD is partnering with the University of North Carolina on a study that will explore the effects of smartphones and social media on children. As part of this study, your student will be asked to complete three surveys: a pre-survey, a mid-year survey, and a post-survey.
Mrs. Gutierrez, our Bilingual Community Liaison, will engage parents and collect parental consent for student participation in the surveys. Our goal is to achieve a response rate of 75-80%.
We hope to gather all parent consent forms within the next two weeks, with the first surveys starting in early November.
Attached, you’ll find the flyer with a QR code linking to the digital parent consent form. We’ve also included the consent form in both English and Spanish below for you to print if needed.
Thank you for your support and participation!
NJHS is Back!
National Junior Honor Society - Fall Application & Community Service Log
The Lincoln Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is an honorary scholastic and service organization. Membership for students is based on the maintenance of a 3.3 grade point average, the desire to do community service, and the demonstration of the principles of scholarship, service, citizenship, leadership, and character. In the past, LMS NJHS students have completed more than 1500 total community service hours each year.
Fall applications (only open to 7th & 8th grade students) are due on November 1st.
Current NJHS members who completed last year’s requirements do not reapply but may begin recording their fall service hours.
6th-grade applicants may apply for the spring semester.
More information including links to the application and community service log can be accessed through the NJHS link on the Lincoln webpage under "Programs".
Halloween Costume Guidelines
Please read
We are very excited to see all of your creative, scary and fun costumes for Halloween!
We just want to remind me you of some of our rules and expectations around costumes. All the same daily student attire guidelines still apply, but in addition, students are not allowed to bring weapons of any kind, wear masks that cover their faces, walk around in inflatable costumes and/or wear large costumes that do not allow you to sit it student desks. If you do not follow the rules and expectations around costumes, items will be confiscated and your parent will have to pick them up.
Thank you!
