St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 WEEK 1 | 15 OCTOBER 2026
Loving God,
we place our hope in you.
Be with us in our classrooms as we learn and grow,
and in the playground as we play and make friends.
Help us include those who feel left out
and bring hope to anyone who is sad.
Bless our teachers and all who care for us.
Let hope grow in us a little more each day,
and help us trust that, with you,
every day is a fresh start.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Columba’s,
“Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all…” — Emily Dickinson
This timeless verse reminds us that hope is a quiet yet powerful force, an inner voice that lifts us through uncertainty and change. As we move through Term 4, it is this gentle resilience that guides us forward, encouraging us to believe in new beginnings and the promise of growth.
Here at St Columba’s, hope is woven into the fabric of our daily life. It shines in the curiosity of our learners, the teamwork of our classrooms, and the bravery shown when students take on new challenges. Hope helps our children rise, discover their strengths, and greet each day with confidence and joy.
As we share this final term together, let us continue to cultivate hope in ourselves, in each other, and in our community.
CLASS LISTS
Class lists will be formed in the final few weeks of school with preparation for this commencing shortly. The process of constructing class lists includes significant professional discussion and planning between staff members to create and determine class lists that have a balance of academic ability, are close to even in number, consider gender balance, social, emotional and behavioural needs of students, which students work well with particular students, and which don’t work well together.
Each child will be asked to nominate three students that they would like to be in class with for the following school year assuring them that they will have at least one of these students in their class.
The following are rarely valid requests and generally will not be considered:
a) Requests for a particular teacher
b) Requests for a child to be in a class with a particular student. At times, we get conflicting requests where a parent would like their child to be in the same class as a particular student and the other child’s parent has requested that the two children be separated. There are also occasions where parent requests conflict with who the child has requested they would like to be in class with.
Valid requests/insights:
a) Separating or keeping twins together.
b) Providing the school with insight into relationship issues a child may have with another student.
P&F and School Advisory Council Voting
Our strong sense of community is one of the things that makes our school so special, and it is built by parents and caregivers who generously give their time, ideas and experience.
Nominations are now open for our P&F Executive Committee and Catholic School Advisory Council.
I warmly encourage you to nominate. Your involvement makes a real difference, and I would be very grateful for your support. Click the link to find out how to nominate.
God bless
Emma
