The Buzz
from Roxbury Village School
May 1, 2023
We hope everyone had a fun yet relaxing vacation full of enjoyable things to do. In surveying students at our Monday Morning Whole School Meeting, several students reported spending time reading, riding bikes, playing outside, visiting with family, sleeping in, and doing other activities. At this point in the year, we have 7 more weeks of school. That is plenty of time for students to continue working on grade level priority standards while setting aside some time for fun as we round out the year. Teachers are busy planning a field trip to Shelburne Farms for May 18th. Also, we have set aside Wednesday, June 7th for Field Day. Thanks to the generosity of our amazing Caregiver Group, VINS will visit RVS on Thursday, June 8th to present a program on Watershed Wildlife which offers a great connection to the work students have been doing on Forest Fridays. Our 4th grade students are gearing up for their transition to Main Street Middle School with another transition event planned for later this month and a step up day planned for June. You'll find a list of all of other important year end events below and we'll add new things as well as we prepare to finish the year.

Volunteering at RVS
As a reminder, anyone who wishes to chaperone a field trip or volunteer on field day must be an approved MRPS level 2 or 3 volunteer. As it takes time to set up a fingerprinting appointment and wait for the results to come back, it is recommended that anyone looking to volunteer begin the process ASAP. For more information, please visit the MRPS Volunteer Site.
Roxbury Caregiver Group (PTO)
The only meeting for May will take place on Tuesday, May 2nd. Plans for Garden Day and Teacher Appreciation Week will be discussed.
Our Spring Garden Day is scheduled for May 7th 1:30-4:30 with a BBQ to follow. Please see the flyer for details.
School is in need of volunteers to help out! Please fill out the forms and do all necessary steps! This would be a great opportunity for parents to work along side staff and their children for certain events! Fun!!

Donations are welcome as well. You or friends and family can donate directly to the school. Every penny helps!! Link is here.

REMINDER -- Cognia Testing
As you may have heard Vermont has replaced the SBAC assessment with a new assessment called Cognia. All of our 3rd and 4th grade students at RVS will take this assessment for Reading and Math. Here is our RVS testing schedule:
- ELA for grades 3/4 -- May 2-3 (mornings)
- Math for grades 3/4 -- May 9-10 (mornings)
We thank you in advance for ensuring students arrive on time for school on these days. As always, we will provide a hearty breakfast each morning. If you have any questions or concerns about the Cognia tests, please reach out to Beth. Thanks!
