PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Friday, August 28th Friday, August 28th

We had a busy, but wonderful first full week of school at Patton! The safety drills all went incredibly well. We had 2 Evacuate (fire) drills, a Lockdown drill and a Shelter (severe weather) drill. I was so impressed with how well students followed all the instructions during the drills.

I would also like to take a moment to welcome the 16 new members of staff that have joined us as part of our Instructional Program this year! We are so happy they are here and would love for you take a minute to familiarize yourself with some of the new faces you will see around Patton by clicking the button below!

I hope to see many of you at the Back to School Bash this evening! The weather looks amazing, and I know the PTA have planned many fun things for all to enjoy!

Thank you,

Ellie Chin

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SAFETY (NEW POST!) BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SAFETY (NEW POST!)

This week we conducted our safety drills to teach our panthers how to be safe during the school day in the event of an emergency. We also wanted to take a moment to discuss safety for students before and after school.

Be Safe at Dismissal Time

The school day ends at 3:35 and there is no supervision for students after school. As stated in the District 25 Parent Student Handbook on page 9, "There is no formal after-school supervision. Students should leave school grounds as soon as they are dismissed at the end of the school day."

When the weather is nice, we know that many families want to enjoy the weather and visit the playground. Students should only stay if their parent is present to provide supervision. Otherwise, students do need to leave school grounds at the end of the day. At 4:00, the playground is reserved for students participating in the Arlington Heights Park District CAP program. Please make sure to leave the school grounds by 4:00.

When we discuss safety with students during dismissal, we tell them to ask a teacher for help if they are outside and don't see their parent. Students should always come to the front office if they do not see their parent. Please reinforce this message with your children.

Students who are being picked up by car should wait by the car line so we can help them find their ride, or contact their parent if no one arrives to pick them up.

If anyone sees an unaccompanied child, the office is prepared to contact their parents to ensure they get home safely.

Be Safe at Arrival Time

At arrival, we have parent traffic team volunteers assisting students out of cars and directing them to the blacktop to enter at Door 7 or 8. Student safety patrol members and staff are at the doors as students enter to greet them until 9:00. A traffic team volunteer will let us know that they have stopped cars and are letting students enter through the main entrance at this point. There is a final scan for any students approaching the building and we hold doors until there are none in sight. Students arriving by car at 9:00 or later should enter through the main entrance. If students are walking or biking and arrive on the blacktop and they do not see anyone there, they should walk around to the main entrance and ring the doorbell to enter. Please discuss this with your child/ren if they are walking/biking/scootering to school so that they understand what to do if they arrive late and everyone is already inside the building.

PAW A BOOK AT CURRICULUM NIGHT (NEW POST!) PAW A BOOK AT CURRICULUM NIGHT (NEW POST!)

On curriculum night come checkout the new books that have been added to the Patton library this year. This includes picture books, early chapter books, fiction books, and nonfiction titles. Mrs Hemmer, our LMC Director, will have a table located just inside the building so come stop by and see her.

If you would like to "sponsor a book" please bring $10 cash and "Paw a Book" that your child would enjoy. We will fill out a sticker nameplate with your child's name on it and they will be the first to check out that book. If you're unsure what book they would like, you could give the $10 and we will call your child down to the library so they can pick. How exciting!

When they are done reading the book they will return it to the library for others to enjoy. Your generosity will make it possible for our Patton Library to purchase even more books for this school year. If you have any questions please email me shemmer@sd25.org

CELL PHONES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES (2nd POST FROM DISTRICT 25) CELL PHONES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES (2nd POST FROM DISTRICT 25)

As we begin the new school year, we want to remind families of our expectations regarding cell phones and other electronic devices at school, including wearables. These expectations are designed to help students stay focused on learning, minimize distractions, and support a positive school environment.

  • Middle school students are expected to turn off electronics and store devices in their middle school locker during the school day.

  • Elementary students are expected to leave electronics in the “off” position and in their backpacks throughout the school day.

  • A supervising teacher may grant permission for them to be used or if needed during an emergency.

  • They may not be used in any manner that will cause disruption to the educational environment or will otherwise violate student conduct rules.

The District will provide access to students who do not own a mobile learning device in circumstances when its use is required for instructional purposes during the day. Electronic devices may be used during the school day if:

  • Use of the device is provided in the student’s IEP, or

  • Permission is received from the student’s teacher with administrator approval

We appreciate your partnership in helping our students be present, engaged, and ready to learn each day. Please take a moment to review the flyer to the right, along with the full policy in the Parent/Student Handbook.

WELCOME MRS. CAMPOS AND MRS. BERTHLEIN! (2nd POST!) WELCOME MRS. CAMPOS AND MRS. BERTHLEIN! (2nd POST!)

My name is Ashley Campos, and I am so excited to join the Patton community as your new Assistant Principal!

This year marks my 15th year in education, and throughout my career, I have been fortunate to wear many different hats. I have taught students from PreK through 8th grade in general education, bilingual education, and dual language settings. Most recently, I served as a Multilingual Specialist in Lake Zurich, Illinois.

I live in Hawthorn Woods with my husband, Antonio, and our three children: Annalise (7), Adelaide (5), and Abraham (5 months). We are a bilingual family and speak both English and Spanish at home. As a family, we love to travel, and we spend much of our summers in Mexico visiting my husband’s extended family.

A fun fact about me is that I attended six different elementary schools growing up!

I am truly excited to be at Patton and look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff. Here’s to a wonderful year together!

Hi! I'm Katie. I have a background in Nursing for 11 years, and 4 years in Early Childhood Education. I grew up in the area, and recently moved to Arlington Heights for my son to attend a school in District 25. He will be starting Kindergarten at Ivy Hill this fall. I am excited to join the Patton Panthers team, to help provide a loving and nurturing environment for all the students to grow, learn and succeed. A few fun facts about me are that I love sports and being outdoors. Reading, photography, and cooking are some of my hobbies.

Welcome back Patton Families! We on the traffic team are looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

We are so lucky to have wonderful parent, grandparent and caregiver volunteers come to help ensure these times of the day run smoothly and safely. This year, we are in need of some extra help! Do you (or a caregiver or a grandparent...) have a bit of spare time before or after school? Do you want to be one of the first friendly faces our Patton Panthers see when they arrive at school or the last high five they get at the end of the school day? If so, we would love for you to consider volunteering to help us get our Panthers in and out of cars! We welcome people who are able to give any amount of time - morning only, afternoon only, one day a week, or even just once-in-a-while as a substitute! We would be so grateful for your help!

Being part of the traffic team is a great way to feel like part of the amazing Patton community and is also a great way to meet other parents!

If you are considering volunteering, but aren't quite ready to make a commitment, you can shadow a traffic volunteer one day and see what it's like. We have wonderful kids who smile at you, say thank you, and are excited to tell you about their day. (Great job, parents!)

If you're ready to help, complete this google form to express your interest. Thank you!

Reach out with any questions to pattontrafficteam@gmail.com and we can help.

Thanks,

Chris and Tracy
