Dear Natick Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the end of October already. As we head into the busy fall season, our elementary families are preparing for parent-teacher conferences and other activities that bring our community together. We encourage everyone to enjoy this festive time of year as we look ahead to Thanksgiving.

I also want to take a moment to recognize our principals during National Principal Recognition Month. Their leadership, dedication, and day-to-day commitment make it possible for our students and staff to thrive. We’re grateful for their work in creating welcoming, safe, and engaging schools across Natick. Please take a look at the Principal profiles included in this newsletter to learn more about our awesome leaders!

I want to extend my sincere thanks to the School Committee, Finance Committee, and Annual Town Meeting members for their continued support of the Memorial School project. With your recent vote in favor of allocating funding for the next phase with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), we are excited to move this important work forward for our students and staff.

We also want to recognize Representative David Linsky for his continued advocacy on behalf of Natick students. Through his partnership and leadership, districts across the Metrowest region, including Natick, have received state funding to expand mental health supports for students. In addition, Natick has been awarded additional funding to strengthen academic supports, including services for multilingual students and families, as well as programs for credit recovery and AP bootcamps. These new resources will help us build on our progress and expand opportunities for all students. We’re grateful for the collaboration and shared commitment that make this work possible.

In this newsletter, you’ll also find helpful information about food resources available right here in Natick. If your family could use some support accessing food, please don’t hesitate to connect with the wonderful community organizations in our area. Our leadership team and staff are always here to help and can guide you toward the resources that best fit your family’s needs.

Wishing everyone a strong start to November.

Warmly,

Melissa Spash

Renaissance Reports Update - Kindergarten Families Only

Kindergarten families will receive their child’s Renaissance Reports during Parent/Teacher Conferences in November, rather than by mail as in other grades. This change allows teachers to review results with families in person and answer any questions right away. Families who are unable to attend conferences in person will have their reports mailed home following the conference dates. The following videos provide an overview to the reports that will be shared at parent/teacher conferences:

  • CAT&CBM Caregiver Report
  • Fastbridge Family Report
  • Directions for Translation of YouTube videos
  • Transcripts to Videos - please refer to the three different tabs in the document to locate the transcript of the desired report.

District Wide Library Newsletter: Check out the news from all of our school library Departments!

Morse Institute Bookmobile Makes a Visit to The NPS Preschool 📖

This week, our preschoolers enjoyed a special visit from the town’s Bookmobile! The children had the chance to explore the shelves, learning how to browse, borrow, and return books—just like patrons at one of the town’s brick-and-mortar libraries. This hands-on experience sparked excitement about reading and helped our youngest learners discover the joy of visiting the library right at school!

KMS Students Help Launch Composting at Memorial ♻️

Memorial Mustangs have started composting during lunches. Fifth graders from KMS came over to teach us how to take case of our planet and compost our waste from lunch. We learned how to do it at a whole school assembly and put it to practice the same day. We reduced our waste exponentially! Thanks to Amber Keller and Jillian Martin for helping us get up and running.

Congratulations to Bethany Spielman and our NHS Musicians on an Amazing Concert and FallFest! 🎶

On Wednesday night, all eight (!) of our vocal music groups performed. Their repertoire spanned from classical to modern pop, and from teacher led to student-directed. The audience had a great time, and I think the students may have had an even better time. The students also held games and an awesome haunted house for the younger (and some of the older) guests. Great job, Bethany and student musicians!

Cultural Heritage Highlights

As October comes to a close, we recognize two important observances that have enriched our community this fall. Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15) honored the vibrant cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Throughout October, we also celebrated Hindu Heritage Month, highlighting the traditions, spirituality, and cultural influence of Hinduism, including significant observances such as Diwali and the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. These celebrations remind us of the strength and diversity that define our school community.
