We’ve had a fantastic start to the second quarter of the school year! Our students have returned energized and ready to learn, and it’s been wonderful to see their continued focus on demonstrating PAWS behavior in classrooms and around the school to ensure our learning environment is top notch! As we move forward, I want to thank you for the important role you play in your child’s educational journey. When families stay connected by talking about what students are learning, celebrating their progress, and communicating with teachers it makes a powerful difference. We appreciate your partnership and know that the success of our school is deeply connected to you!

HES will kick off Red Ribbon Week on Monday, 10/26, with “Wear Red Day”. Throughout the week, all classes will take part in Red Ribbon Week themed Social/Emotional lessons. The list of themes is listed below and also in the picture. Our focus areas for the week include saying no to drugs and peer pressure, making good choices, and planning for the future. There will be opportunities to show good character, make good choices, and pledge to be a drug and bully free school!

Optional Spirit Week themes are below:

Monday: Wear red

Tuesday: Wear something to represent your favorite superhero today - a costume, a cape...

Wednesday: Wear Team Gear (jersey/shirt/hat) - "Team up against bullying and unsafe choices!"

Thursday: Wear your Halloween costume - "Say BOO to drugs and bullying!"

Halloween will be here before we know it! HES will continue the tradition of participating in a school community parade to celebrate. On Thursday, 10/29 our parade will kick off at 9:15 AM beginning with KG classes, followed by 1st grade, 2nd grade, etc…and our 5th Grade leaders will exit the front doors last.

Classroom parties will follow later in the day at differing times, dependent on each grade level's lunch/recess schedule. Please use the link below to learn more important information regarding Halloween festivities at HES.

IAR Reports for 4th & 5th graders IAR Reports for 4th & 5th graders

Your child’s Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) score report will be coming home by the end of the week. This report provides information about your child’s performance on the Spring '26 state assessment in English Language Arts and Mathematics. We encourage you to review the report with your child and celebrate their learning and growth. Remember, this assessment is just one measure of your child’s progress and does not reflect all of the things he/she is learning and accomplishing each day.
