Parent Education & Empowerment
Each month we will highlight a different topic for parents of teens to hopefully grow in their knowledge and awareness.
Self Compassion: We often hear a lot about self- esteem, and how our teens especially struggle with this. However, new research is pointing to the potential dangers of evaluation that are inherently a part of self esteem. A healthy alternative to this comparison trap is self compassion. You and your teen can learn ways to develop and practice self compassion. This can produce huge benefits to mental wellness by reducing anxiety, depression, and stress.
Here are a few resources to check out:
Self Compassion for Teens Meditation (approx 12 m)
TED-x Talk: The Space Between Self-Esteem and Self-Compassion (approx 19 m)
