The Wentzville School District Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday, May 16, that was live-streamed via theWSD Board of Education YouTube channel and can be viewed by visiting YouTube. Dr. Jeri LaBrot and Brian Bishop, co-interim superintendents of schools, began the business portion of the meeting by providing comments and sharing District highlights. View the slideshow.
Bond Resolution
The Board rescinded their previous motion for a resolution authorizing a special election to issue general obligation bonds that would have gone to voters in August 2024. While this decision has shifted the timeline, the District reiterated its commitment to this initiative at a future time.
Second Reading: Revision & Adoption of Board Policy 2245
The Board motioned to adopt Board Policy 2245 - Transfer Students Policy 2245. Revisions removed language temporarily suspending the intra-district transfer provision that was supposed to be in effect for only the 2016-2017 school year and the school assignment procedures that were supposed to be in effect for only the 2017-2018 school year. Additional revisions reflected the transfer process for students with disabilities.
Approval of Curriculum Documents
The Board approved the following curriculum documents, as presented.
First Reading: Meetings: Participation by Public Policy 0412
The Board had a first reading of the Meetings: Participation by Public Policy 0412. A motion was made and approved to add the language, "discussion items will be limited to the posted agenda" for the second reading next month. The Board also discussed additional revisions that will be reflected in second reading.
The Board was presented with a Federal Programs Evaluation. The purpose of Federal Program funds is to provide supplemental assistance, professional learning, and enhancement of educational programs in a school district. View the presentation.
Thank you to Kristina Bugh at Stone Creek Elementary who used her super-teacher reflexes to save a student who was choking on a grape earlier this month. Her quick thinking helped keep our students safe!
Resignations
The Board approved the resignation of Beth Kennedy, assistant principal at Heritage Primary, effective June 30, 2024.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is set for June 20, 2024. The Board will have a special meeting on June 5, 2024.
