Dear KRS families,

I hope that you are managing to stay warm on these very cold days. We are trying our best to provide the students with outdoor recess, however on days when the temperature is very cold the students will have indoor recess in their classrooms. Please send your child to school dressed to play outside in cold weather just in case we are able to provide outdoor recess.

Schools are closed on January 20, 2025 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The students will be participating in class and school activities related to Dr. King's life and legacy. Descriptions of the activities will be highlighted in next week's newsletter.

February is next month, so MPS elementary school Valentine's Day celebration guidelines are included in this newsletter.

Have a warm and great weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathy Koop

Teacher Highlight - Mrs. Kathy Goodbread

What is your role at Kings Road School? What do you do at Kings Road School?

I am a second grade teacher. This is my twenty-fourth year teaching seven and eight year olds.

I am so lucky to get to do something that I love every day. My teaching career spans over 30

years. I have taught children from preschool to third grade. In fact, my first job out of college

was in Madison at Rainbow Montessori school. The majority of my teaching has been in second

grade. I’ve never wanted to do anything else, except maybe act in plays but being a teacher is

kind of like acting all day long! And I have the best audience!

What are your qualifications to serve in your role?

I have a bachelor of arts degree in Early Childhood Education from WIlliam Paterson University.

When my son started high school, I decided to go back to school to continue my education. I

was terrified at first. I didn’t feel like I could do it. But I loved, loved, loved learning again. I

earned my Masters of Arts in Education in 2019. I am still applying what I learned in the

classroom every day.

What do you like about Kings Road School?

I love the kids, the parents, and especially the teachers that I work with. I am so lucky to work

with people who lift me up and help me be my best, every day. I think it’s not a secret that Kings

Road School is the best place to help our children learn and grow. I say this as a teacher and as

a parent. My son, Max, is a Kings Road alumni.

What is your favorite book?

That’s a hard question to answer. I love to read. I read every day and all types of books. I love

how words put together in just the right way can make you have all sorts of feelings.Currently, I

am reading a book by Lisa See called, “The Island of Sea Women” and I am listening to “The

Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt.

What do you like to do when you are not at Kings Road School?

When I’m not at work, I like to work out with weights. I work in my garden. I decorate and curate

my home into the perfect place for my family. I love to reduce waste by shopping at estate sales

and thrift shops. My home is filled with unique objects that someone else used to love and now

they get to be mine. I am still learning and growing. Future goals are to write a book, learn how

to crochet, hone my photography skills, and play my acoustic guitar.
