Message from Ms. Gullo
Dear Families,
Dear Yellow Springs Families,
Hope you had a wonderful Spring Break! It is hard to believe today is the last day for quarter three! A reminder that school is closed, Monday, April 12th. There will be no Google Meets. Please review the important information below.
Check bus pick up and drop off times – We would encourage ALL families who have students attending hybrid instruction to check bus pick-up and drop-off times before Tuesday, April 13th. Pick-up and drop-off times may have changed due to additional students attending in-person learning. You need your child’s student ID number to access transportation information.
FCPS Parent Preference Survey – FCPS is planning for all students to return to school in-person five days per week in the next school year, 2021-2022. An all-virtual option will be offered as well. All planning will be in accordance with recommended health and safety guidelines per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as state and local health departments. We need to hear from you about your preference for your child's learning model in the next school year. By filling out the survey, you are not committing your child to a particular learning model at this time. This information is critical for planning purposes only.
Please complete the survey for each child you have enrolled in an FCPS school: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ParentPref2122 The survey closes on April 16.
A Message from our PTA President
Dear Yellow Springs family,
It’s that time of year where the PTA Board asks for volunteers to join and run for office. This is the third time in my tenure as PTA President that we’ve made this request, and the third year in a row that no one has stepped forward to join the Board.
We as the Board are certainly not the only parents who have kept the PTA going; we’ve been joined by a consistent few who work year after year to bring Chess Club, sewing classes, Snapology and other after-school activities, Race for Ed, the annual talent show, spirit nights, raffles, dances, and festivals. We have parents who have tracked Box Tops and Coke codes, scooped popcorn and trail mix, sold concessions, and stocked the teachers’ lounge with goodies.
We want all these things to happen in the years to come, but we are not able to continue on as the Board. We have decided as a group that we will be stepping down this year, and in the absence of new Board members, we will dissolve the Yellow Springs Elementary School PTA.
What does this mean for YSES? We will no longer be part of the County, State, or National PTA. We will no longer carry insurance to cover events, and there will no longer be a budget for teacher appreciation or events for students and families.
What are the options going forward? Parents can collaborate to create a PTO, or three parents can step forward to take over the PTA Board. We are required to have a President, Secretary, and Treasurer to remain operational as a PTA.
If you are interested in keeping the PTA going, or have questions about starting a PTO, please reach out and let me know. I am happy to answer questions, and I know the other Board members are as well.
We have loved serving you, your children, the teachers, and staff at Yellow Springs all these years, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do so.
With gratitude,
Jenn Metcalf Tousey
PTA President
