Getting Enough Sleep
You always hear the phrase that sleep is so important, and ‘get your 8 hours’ of rest, but does it really make that big of a difference? In fact, it does make a big difference in everyday functioning. Studies show that “children and adolescents who do not get enough sleep have a higher risk for many health and behavior problems.” During your shut eye is the most important time for the body to perform its restorative duties to help you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. Middle school aged students should actually aim for 9-12 hours per night, according to the CDC. Ways to help support this include a consistent bedtime for your student during the school week as well as reducing technology use in the evening when it is time to wind down for the night. Blue lights on TV’s (gaming), cell phones, computers and other devices disrupt restful, restorative sleep. Embrace the winter months with less daylight and catch up on as much sleep as your body allows. Set your student up for success and design a bedtime routine to ensure they are prepared for school to learn and engage most effectively.
Counselor's Corner
During 8th grade BARR I-Time, students participated in the lesson, Collaborative Problem Solving. Students brainstormed a list of common middle school barriers. They then collaboratively came up with various strategies to try in order to overcome the identified academic, social, and emotional barriers and/or difficulties for themselves or peers.
School News
Our staff and students had a very festive week leading up to break!
Each grade had an assembly, orchestra students went "caroling" through the school, the SHS Music Department visited our 8th graders, and everyone rocked our dress up days!
We would like to thank the Superior PIGS for their incredible kindness and generosity donating gifts this season. We are beyond grateful for your support and for looking out for our students!

Thank you for supporting our SMS students.
We're looking to make our middle school lunch periods even more engaging and fun for our students, and we need your help! The College of St. Scholastica OT students have been working with us to find ways to make our lunches more engaging and fun for the students. We have created a game cart and are in need of more supplies.
We're collecting gently used games for our students to play during their lunch breaks. Games are a great way for them to socialize and have some fun with friends.
Do you have any of the following lying around that you don't use anymore?
Card Games? (Uno, Phase 10, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, etc)
Board Games? (Chess, Checkers, Connect Four, Scrabble, etc)
Small group games (Tenzi, Dominos, Yahtzee, extra dice)
We kindly ask that all donations are complete and in gently used condition.
How to Donate:
Games can be dropped off in the main office.
Thank you for helping us enrich our students' lunchtime experience! Your generosity will bring a lot of joy and connection to our campus.
