Dear Parents and Carers,

Who can believe we have reached the penultimate Friday before the summer holidays? Certainly not me!

This week the older siblings of children at Jigsaws had the opportunity to watch their brothers and sisters take part in Sports Day. We love that we are welcomed into nursery for lots of things as it helps us to create a strong bond - thanks Jigsaws for always making us feel so welcome.

On Wednesday, it was time for the school discos. Thank you to everyone who supported this event. It was busy and noisy and slightly sweaty - the children loved it! The Friends of Kirk Fenton have done a brilliant job on the events so far. I will aim to let you know the total amount raised in next week's newsletter but I believe we should already be able to get the OPAL welly storage.

Thursday was a very busy day. In the afternoon we held the final school governors meeting of the year. After a successful two years as Chair, Catherine Charlesworth has made the decision to step down in order to focus on her role as Foundation governor. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Catherine for everything she has done not only to support the school, but also all the help she has given me in my first year as headteacher. Mark Gibson has kindly offered to step in and will take over responsibility as Chair of Governors on 1st September.

School reports will be going home today. The teachers have been working really hard to make sure they sum up your child’s year of learning and progress. I had the privilege of reading and commenting on them - we really have a school full of cracking children don’t we?!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mel Walmsley

Message from the Head Pupils

Wow, it’s been a warm end to the week! We can’t believe it is nearly summer. The year 5/6s have been working hard on their end of year show and can’t wait to perform to parents next week. All the classes have been outside making the most of the weather, which has been lovely to see. Have a lovely weekend.

A Huge Thank You!

We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated such amazing gifts for our raffle at this year’s summer fair! The raffle was incredibly popular this year, and we truly believe that was down to the fantastic quality of the prizes on offer.

Special thanks to:

️ Jay Oliver for the Amazon Fire Kindle

️ Charlotte for the incredible Notre-Dame Lego set

️ Siobhan for the Tree Tops Forest School session

️ 5 Star Embroidery for their voucher

️ The Village Shop for the beautiful hamper

️ Charlotte for the Baby Band Tickets

️ The Ash Tree for their voucher

️ Mick Parnaby for the use of the BBQ

And, of course, a huge thank you to all the school staff, volunteers, and everyone who came along to support the event.

We’re excited to share that the money will help fund new outdoor storage for wellies and waterproofs, so the children can continue to enjoy outdoor learning whatever the weather! It will also support our magical Christmas celebrations, including covering the cost of coaches to take the children to and from the Christmas pantomime.

Thank you all for making this possible!

Summer Reading Challenge

Get close to nature with the Summer Reading Challenge 2025!
Children can once again sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge at their local library during the holidays. This year the theme is Story Garden and is all about firing up imagination through the power of reading and creative expression.
The challenge for children is to read 6 library books of their choice. They will be able to collect special stickers and prizes along the way – everyone who finishes will receive a medal and a certificate. Any child aged 4 to 11 can join in and the challenge runs from Saturday 12th July until Saturday 6th September.
There will also be a fantastic programme of activities in libraries all summer, many of them free, to go with the challenge – families can find out what’s happening locally by contacting their library, on local library Facebook pages and on our webpages: Summer Reading Challenge | North Yorkshire Council
