From the Principal:

Hello Middle School South Families,

As we continue to move through these incredibly cold days, February is shaping up to be fun at MSS and across District 95! We are particularly excited for our upcoming Winter Olympics Activity Night on February 6th, where we will welcome our friends from MSN for what will be a really great time. From the District 95 Art Festival to the Science Fair and our PTO’s "Chocolate Fest" for staff, there are countless ways for students and families to get involved.

Please take a moment to read through this newsletter for important safety reminders, information about the aforementioned fun events, and much more.

Have a great weekend!

Anthony Dengler

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders

With the colder months upon us and the incredible cold we have been experiencing lately, we have seen an increase in the number of families dropping off or picking up their students. While this does make our parking lot traffic more congested, it is important that we continue to follow our safety guidelines. Below are a few important reminders we wanted to share:

  • Students should not cross traffic in our drive. Students may only enter and exit the car along the sidewalk in front of the school.

  • All families must pull up along the sidewalk when dropping off or picking up their student. Do not park and have students cross the traffic of our drive.

  • Be mindful of buses. Illinois law requires all drivers to stop for a school bus when the stop arm is extended and the lights are flashing, whether on the street or on school property. Any violation will be reported to the police department for follow-up.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to keep all of our students safe during these busy times of day.

Open gym is being held on Monday, February 2nd and Tuesday, February 3rd to practice skills and receive feedback from the coaches.

The tryouts for all boys are Monday, February 9th and Tuesday, February 10th. Please be sure to check the posted flyers for times and locations.

Athletics Information Regarding Important Documents and Registration

Needed Forms Prior to First Day of Activity/Tryout:

For students interested in trying out and participating in a sport, students must have the following:

  • Physical: All students participating in tryouts and a sport must have a current physical or sports physical on file. Physicals are good for one year and one month from the date the physical was conducted. Please check to make sure your physical is current prior to tryouts or the start of an athletic activity. The physical should be turned into the Nurse’s Office.

  • Emergency Information Form: Students must have a completed and signed Emergency Information Form for each activity they are trying out for/participating in. They will need to turn this form in to the coach or sponsor at the time of tryouts. If try-outs are not required, then the form should be turned in at the first meeting of the sport or activity.

All required medical forms and athletic schedules can be found on the Athletics & Activities website.

Registration:

All registration for activities will be in ParentVUE and information about registration will be sent later this summer.
