Dear Brahma Family,

I was fortunate to be a spectator at our quarterfinal Mock Trial match last Monday at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, home to the LA County Superior Court, in downtown Los Angeles. Our students performed spectacularly well and, in my opinion, good enough to win. However, Monroe HS was also very good and in a very close decision possibly coming down to one or two points they edged out the Brahmas. Congratulations to all of the students on our Mock Trial team for advancing to the final eight. Thank you to Mrs. Thomas and Ms. Ku for coaching our Mock Trial and providing our students with the opportunity to compete at the highest level in this unique competition that combines legal knowledge with dramatic performance art and public speaking.

On Friday, we hosted many members of, if my math is correct, the DBHS Class of 2035. The first graders from Evergreen Elementary School were on campus to watch the first performance of “A Jolly Holiday.” Eventually all of the Evergreen students had the chance to attend the show. This production was both written and performed by students from our drama program, some of whom found themselves in the audience around a decade ago during their own elementary school days.

For many years, it has been a winter tradition to extend an invitation to our colleagues at Evergreen welcoming them to bring their students to our theatre for a holiday performance during the school day. Thank you to our Drama Teacher Mr. Kaitz, our Theatre Tech, Mr. Kaitz and our Stagecraft teacher Ms. Riley for welcoming our future Brahmas and producing an outstanding show.

Our Choir Department’s Holiday show, "The Nightmare Before Christmas," is scheduled for this Thursday and Friday, December 7 and December 8 at 7 pm in the DBHS Theatre.

I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Sincerely,

David Hong
