Sonora Elementary Mission and Vision

Mission

Sonora Elementary’s mission is to provide a safe community where high levels of learning are ensured for ALL.

Vision

The vision of Sonora Elementary School is to provide a future of opportunities in a rapidly changing world through an inclusive environment that: ensures children learn essential standards, encourages ALL to persevere when faced with challenges, and empowers students through choice and voice. To live this reality we believe that the most promising strategy is to develop our capacity to be a professional learning community. We envision a school in which staff:

  • Unite to achieve a common purpose.

  • Work interdependently in collaborative teams.

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to the academic success and general well-being of each student.

Hello Sonora Families!

We hope you're having a joyful and restful summer with your amazing children! While summer fun is still going strong, our team is already back at Sonora, preparing for what promises to be our best school year yet!

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back in just a few days. As we get closer to the first day of school—August 11th—here are a few helpful tips to ease your child back into the school routine:

  1. Adjust Bedtime: Start shifting bedtime earlier to align with a school schedule. A good night’s sleep is essential for focus and learning!

  2. Get Reading: Encourage daily reading. If your child isn’t yet reading independently, spend time reading aloud together and asking questions to build comprehension.

  3. Unplug and Play: Begin limiting screen time. Instead, encourage creative play, time with friends, board games, or outdoor activities (even if it’s early morning or evening when it’s cooler!). Screen-free time helps sharpen attention and imagination.

  4. Build Independence: Give your child a few simple responsibilities around the house. This builds confidence and readiness for classroom routines.

Focusing on these four areas now will help your child feel confident and prepared for the exciting year ahead at Sonora!

Thanks to a generous donation from The Hallmark family, Sonora Elementary has a full-time therapy dog. His name is Tripp and Janelle Harp, school counselor, is his owner and handler. Tripp is a standard GoldenDoodle which means he is considered hypoallergenic because he has little to no shedding. Tripp has passed all required trainings to be a certified therapy dog by the American Kennel Club (AKC). Below are a list of benefits schools experience from having a therapy dog.

  • Increased school attendance.

  • Positive changes lead to better learning and enhanced motivation.

  • Growth in confidence levels.

  • Development of better and stronger relationships with teachers and peers due to the experience of trust and love with therapy dogs.

All students must have parent permission to interact with Tripp. Please click the link below to fill out the needed form.
