From the Principal
It’s hard to believe we are wrapping up another school year! It has truly been a great year at BES, and we are so grateful for your continued support. Your involvement has played a vital role in making this year a success. Our students and teachers have worked incredibly hard, and I know everyone is looking forward to a well-deserved summer break.
To our upcoming 6th graders: we wish you all the best as you begin your middle and high school journey. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish. For our rising 4th and 5th graders, have a wonderful summer—I look forward to welcoming you back in the fall!
As we close out the school year, I’d like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate Mrs. Kim Lunsford as she prepares for retirement. Mrs. Lunsford is concluding an incredible 27-year career in education, including 24 dedicated years at BES. Throughout her time here, she has made a lasting impact while teaching Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and serving in the Early Intervention Program.
We are grateful for the countless students and colleagues she has influenced over the years. Please join us in wishing her all the best in retirement—may it be filled with rest, joy, and exciting new adventures. She will be greatly missed at BES!
May is also a time to celebrate our incredible teachers. The educators at BES give their all each day and play an essential role in shaping the future. Teaching is a challenging, yet profoundly rewarding profession, and I am continually inspired by their passion and commitment. If you haven’t already, please take a moment to thank your child’s teacher for the difference they’ve made. I personally carry gratitude for the teachers who helped shape me into who I am today. Teachers truly rock!
As we approach the end of the year, we currently have over $4,100 in cafeteria debt. Please help us reduce this balance. For any questions or to arrange a payment plan, feel free to contact Ms. Jenny, our cafeteria manager, at (706) 866-9183 or jhastick.bat@catoosa.k12.ga.us.
As I stated in the April Newsletter, after 29 wonderful years in education—including 14 as a teacher and 15 as an administrator—I will be retiring at the end of this school year. It has been the greatest honor of my career to serve as your principal for the past nine years and to be a small part of the 49-year legacy here at Battlefield Elementary. This school is a truly special place, and I am incredibly proud of the growth we have achieved together through our strengthened community connections and culture of collaboration. While I am not yet sure what my next chapter holds, I will forever cherish the smiles, the successes, and the partnership of our families. Thank you for the privilege of being part of your children’s lives.
Finally, on a personal note, thank you for entrusting us with your most prized possessions—your children. We are so fortunate to share in their growth and development during their time at BES. It is a joy to watch them mature and thrive over the years.
Wishing everyone a safe, restful, and joy-filled summer. Enjoy time with your loved ones, and we look forward to seeing you again in August!
