Welcome Back to School!
Welcome back families! We hope your child has had a wonderful first 2 weeks of school and you are finding the transition to back to school routines smooth! Below are some items to note as we begin the year. We look forward to the upcoming events with you and all that is to come in another successful school year!
Sincerely,
Tim Stowe
Elementary Principal
Level Up Breakfast!
Join us for the Level Up Breakfast! The purpose of this event is to welcome you into your child's classroom, connect with your child's teacher on important information to start the school year, and enjoy a delicious breakfast with your student!
Westwood Upgrades and Updates
You might have noticed some improvements at Westwood during Open House. This past summer brought a variety of projects and work at Westwood. Our summer upgrades included new hallway flooring on the upper level, 2 new flex spaces, a new chiller, and some fresh concrete and paint!
Westwood Health Office
Welcome Chelsey Nixa!
Extra Clothes Needed
Our health office is in need of extra sets of boys' pants, size small through large. If your child has outgrown a pair or two, we would appreciate the donation!
Every Meal
Westwood Elementary is excited to once again partner with Every Meal to provide a bag of food each week to families that choose to sign up (one bag per student). Food bags are sent home in student backpacks weekly. Brochures will be sent home with students to sign up for this program over the next week or you can fill out the form here: WES EveryMeal Signup
Please reach out to jodi.polingo@isd728.org with any questions!
Cell Phones and Smart Watches
Thank you families for reminding your student that cell phones are not allowed at school. If they are brought to school, they must be turned off and kept in lockers. Students have been very good about this over the last couple of years!
We do allow students to wear Smart watches at school, however, they can only be used to check the time. We have had more difficulty with this as students text, call, play games and receive notifications that interrupt the class. If student smart watches become a distraction or are used in ways previous described, teachers will direct students to keep them in backpacks and in lockers. Thank you for your support on this as well!
WES/ZES PAC- Walk-A-Thon!
We are so excited for our PAC Walk-a-Thon on Friday, October 2nd! This is the primary fundraiser of the year for both Westwood and Zimmerman Elementary Schools. This year, we have set an ambitious goal of raising $60,000 between both schools. Last year, we raised approximately $20,000 for each school, and we are hoping to make an even bigger impact this year. We need your help to reach our goal!
Our kick-off is Monday, September 14th. Students will be coming home with a letter explaining all of the details and a collection envelope for cash, check, Campus or Square donations. We thank you for your continued support!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are Coming!
Fall Conferences are just around the corner on October 8th, 13th, and 14th. More information and a signup will be coming on September 25th!
ISD 728 Referendum Information
Building for What’s Next: ISD 728 Referendum on the November Ballot
This November, ISD 728 residents will consider a comprehensive bond and levy referendum designed to address some of the District’s most significant facility needs for the next decade. As ISD 728 looks ahead to the next phase of continued enrollment growth, particularly in the southern portion of the District, the proposal is designed to help our schools keep pace with that growth and address current and future capacity needs. At the same time, the referendum would make investments in school safety and security, Career and Technical Education opportunities, and facilities to better serve students receiving specialized special education services.
The referendum, set for Election Day, Nov. 3, 2026, is the result of more than a year of planning, study and community engagement. That work included a community facilities task force assembled in fall 2025, extensive analysis by District staff and the School Board’s Facilities Committee, and a community survey conducted by School Perceptions, Inc. this spring that generated more than 5,000 responses. Together, that input helped shape a long-range proposal intended to address both the District’s most immediate needs and those anticipated in the years ahead.
