Happy Labor Day Weekend!

As you continue enjoying your Labor Day Monday, please take time to read and review this week's newsletter. It contains information relevant to safety concerns, testing outcomes, PTA information and updates, and other items supporting Eaton.

As always, families should monitor the school's website, facebook page, and calendar for any additional up-to-date information.

We hope each of our students, staff, and families are as

excited as we are for everyone to return to school!

Ms. Mitchell / Fall Book Fair

Our Fall Book Fair with Literati will be September 14-18! Our online fair is open now if you would like to get a head start. Our after school hours will be on Tuesday, September 15th from 2:45-6:30 (including PTA BINGO Night).

You can purchase a gift card for your child (or their teacher!) online to make in school purchases easier. Balances can be rolled over until our next book fair (and any remaining amounts from previous fairs can still be used). You can also shop for additional online exclusive titles. Click HERE to visit our school's book fair site. **New this year, we are required to charge 7% NC sales tax for all online and in-person purchases.**

All online and in-person book fair purchases will support the Eaton Media Center.

Tardies & Breakfast & Missing Instruction

We are seeing an influx of tardies not only to the building but to class as well. Students are marked tardy if they arrive to either the building or the classroom after the 7:40am bell. Students needing to eat breakfast will be provided the opportunity to eat, but these students will be marked tardy if they arrive to class after 7:40am. We encourage all families to arrive earlier than usual if your student is eating breakfast at school.

Lunch with Students

Parents/guardians and visitors are allowed to have lunch with their student (Grades 1-5) during the student's designated lunch time. Guests must remain in the cafeteria and exit as soon as lunch is complete. During this lunch visit, guests should not move around the cafeteria, take pictures or share information using technology with anyone other their their child, and the use of any tobacco product is strictly prohibited.

Safety During Arrival & Dismissal

When entering Eaton's parking lot from Market Street, you must be in the turn lane to turn right into Eaton. Turning right into Eaton from the straight lane creates an unsafe situation for all stakeholders. We understand the line is long and traffic may be stopped on Gordon Road, but we ask that all drivers entering Eaton follow basic traffic laws for the safety of everyone.

Jessica Liverman / Data Manager

Parents/Guardians: Please complete the required Annual Update to review the information we have on record for your student(s). You can also update information and request transportation. Parents who completed a new enrollment application for this school year do not need to complete the Annual Update unless information submitted in the initial application has changed. Important: If you do not see all of your students in the Student Section of the Annual Update, please contact Ms. Liverman before proceeding.

Anne Matney / School Counselor

The coffee cart is a once-a-month treat for Eaton staff headed up by the 5th grade Service Club where Mrs. Matney and Service Club students visit teachers to offer coffee and snacks. We are very thankful to the PTA and parents who support this service project through donations. If you would be willing to send in items for the cart, please click on the provided link. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Matney. Thank you!

Ms. Matney would also appreciate item donations for the school store where students at the end of each nine weeks can 'shop' for items using their Olympian Dollars. These items can range from small items to larger items as staff will have various price ranges for students. Most needed items include medium and large items (jump rope, nerf-type balls, hula hoops, etc). Donations may be dropped off at the front office for Ms. Matney. Thank you, in advance, for your support.

Volunteering within New Hanover County Schools

  • Volunteers must schedule their support time with a staff member before coming to Eaton.

Volunteer training must be completed EVERY year for Level I -- This means that you want to come in to the school, have lunch with your student, and support students and staff! Please click the shared link and review the NHCS Volunteer Orientation and complete the Volunteer Orientation Assessment. This is Level I volunteering!

Level II: This is required every three (3) years -- this means you want to attend a field trip! This requires an application, background check and approval at district level. Remember, while you may have a current Level 2, you are still required to complete Level 1 every year before volunteering.

To attend or chaperone a field trip, volunteers must have both Level I and Level II status.

Bus Transporation / Parent Resources

NEW / Chipmunk Application

The best way to track your student's bus is by downloading the NEW Chipmunk Bus Tracking App. The App provides secure, personalized bus information so you can see your student's bus in real time. It also notifies you of scheduled pickup and drop-off times, as well as any bus substitutions.

  • Chipmunk How-To Brochure (English)
  • Chipmunk How-To Brochure (Spanish)

Please note: Only student contacts with an email address listed in your student's Infinite Campus account are eligible to enroll.
