Reagan MS Academic Support and Touch Base Conferences
Academic Support
As Quarter 1 is coming to a close at the end of October, families will receive their student's grades. We understand that seeing a lower-than-expected grade can raise questions or concerns.
If your child is earning a low grade, the classroom teacher should have already reached out to discuss academic concerns and available supports. If you are concerned about just one class, we encourage you to contact the teacher directly. You may also reach out to your student's school counselor, who can help answer questions and connect you with the appropriate staff member.
If you would like to schedule a Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC), please contact your student's counselor and Mrs. Klein, our Parent Liaison, at KleinKO@pwcs.edu. When making your request, please include:
- Your child's name
- Grade level
- Your questions or concerns
- Your availability over the next few weeks
Families are also encouraged to attend our Touch Base Conferences on November 2 from 9-11. This is a great opportunity to stop by, meet with your child's teachers, and have brief conversations about academic progress, classroom performance, and ways to support success during the remainder of the school year.
We look forward to partnering with you to support your student's growth and achievement.

Technology Tips
Success at school starts with staying informed—and two of the best tools we have are Canvas and StudentVUE/ParentVUE.
CANVAS

*Reminder, the mobile app for students is no longer available*
Creating A Pairing Code For Parent Access To Student Courses
- As a student you can provide parents or guardians with a Pairing Code to observe your courses. Pairing codes can only be generated using the web version of Canvas, not the mobile app.
- Generate a parent/observer code by logging in to Canvas
- In Global Navigation, select the Account link then select the Settings link
- Select the Pair with Observer link on the right side of the window.
- A new window will open. Copy Pairing Code.
- Copy the six-digit alphanumeric pairing code. You will need to share the code with the observer who will link to your account. The pairing code will expire after seven days or its first use.
- To close the window, select the OK link.
- Note: Pairing codes are case sensitive.
Observer/Parent Access to Canvas
Parents must begin by requesting a pairing code from their child's teacher or have their child log in to Canvas to access the pairing code.
- Once parents receive their pairing code, they will need to sign up for a Canvas account. Parents will go to the Canvas login page and select "Parent of a Canvas User".
- Parents will enter the information requested including the pairing code provided to them by their child or their child's teacher.
- To add more students to observe, once logged in, parents will want to select Account > Observing. Here, they can identify who they are already linked to and add more children.
- Once the account has been created, parents can use the Canvas Student App on their Apple or Android devices to access their account. When using the app, parents will select Prince William County Parents when asked to "find school." The Canvas Student app and the Canvas Parent app are similar. Canvas has recommended that the Canvas Student app has a better layout.

A Message from the Principal: United for Student Growth
At Reagan Middle School, we believe that student success is a shared responsibility and I’m proud to collaborate closely with our exceptional counseling department to ensure every student is supported academically, socially, and emotionally.
Together, we work to uphold the counseling department’s mission: providing access to a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program that nurtures resilience, critical thinking, and accountability. Whether it’s partnering on school-wide initiatives, analyzing data to promote equity, or supporting students through transitions and challenges, our joint efforts help students develop the habits of mind they need to thrive.
We celebrate our students’ diversity, encourage their growth as digital citizens, and prepare them to be innovative, adaptable contributors to their communities. I invite families and students to engage with our counseling team as they are a cornerstone of our school’s vision for a thriving future.
Mr. Beemer
MTSS Matters: Supporting Every Student, Every Day
At Reagan Middle School, we believe that every student deserves the right support at the right time. As the MTSS Coordinator, I work closely with our counseling department, teachers, and administrators to ensure that our students receive personalized interventions and enrichment opportunities that meet their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
MTSS is not just a framework, it’s a commitment to equity. Through data-driven decision-making and collaborative problem-solving, we identify students who may need additional support and implement strategies that help them succeed. Whether it’s small-group instruction, check-in/check-out systems, or family engagement efforts, our goal is to foster resilience, confidence, and growth in every learner.
Together with our counseling team, we’re building a school culture where students are empowered to take ownership of their learning and well-being. If you have questions about how MTSS works or how it might support your child, I’d love to connect.
Mr. Thousand
Family Connections: A Note from Our Parent Liaison
Hello! My name is Kelly Klein, and I’m proud to serve as the Parent Liaison for Ronald Reagan Middle School. My role is to ensure open and direct communication between our school and the families we serve. After teaching at RRMS for 11 years, I’ve spent the past three years as Parent Liaison and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of this wonderful school community.
At RRMS, we know that students thrive when families and schools work together. I’m here to support that connection in many ways:
You might hear from me about attendance concerns, parent-teacher conferences, or school events like Breakfast with the Principal or our Touch Base Event.
I often collaborate with our counseling department to help families stay informed and involved in their child’s academic, social-emotional, and career development.
You might see me at a PTSO meeting, or hear from me about special events we’re sponsoring to build community and celebrate our families.
I also help families navigate school resources, organize parent workshops, and connect with services that support student success. For example, we offer:
School supplies for students who need them
Weekend food bags for families needing extra food support
Tech tips for using platforms like Canvas and StudentVUE/ParentVUE to stay organized and informed
Starting a new school year can be exciting but also overwhelming. If there’s anything I can do to help make the transition smoother for your RRMS student, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me at 571-402-3500 or email me at kleinko@pwcs.edu.
I’m looking forward to meeting you and working together to make this a fantastic year!
Mrs. Klein

See Something Say Something Tip Line
Students, staff, and parents share the responsibility for an orderly and safe school environment. Information about drugs, weapons, or other factors which may be harmful to the school environment should be reported via the Tip Line or through the "Say Something" Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS). SS-ARS is designed specifically for students in grades 6-12 and staff to report any serious or potentially violent concerns of unsafe behavior or threats of harm to self or others. Say Something is a youth violence prevention program from the national nonprofit organization Sandy Hook Promise and is provided and sustained at no cost to PWCS.
"Tipsters" can send reports on anything from school threats they've seen or overheard to personal crises, including sexual harassment, self-harm, and depression. The system enables school administrators and law enforcement to create effective interventions and intervene upon at-risk individuals to help prevent violence, suicide, bullying, self-harm, and other forms of threatening behavior.
All tips submitted receive an immediate response by one of the highly-skilled crisis counselors at the Sandy Hook Promise National Crisis Center; this person then determines the necessary support steps. When credible tips are received that are life-threatening and/or involve an imminent threat, the crisis center will immediately contact local 911 dispatch and involve law enforcement, then notify central office staff and school-based representatives, even after hours. Users can submit a tip by calling 1-844-5-SAYNOW or by visiting www.SaySomething.net. The free app is available for download from the App Store and Google Play Store, where students can submit tips instantly. Once downloaded, it will ask for a 4-digit code you select and remember.
Following are some suggestions for reporting such information:
- Submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-844-5-SAYNOW or visiting www.SaySomething.net
- Call 911 in cases of immediate emergency
