Announcements
Thursday, November 9 - Veterans Recognition Assembly - Invitation for Veteran Attendees
This year we will be hosting a school-wide Veterans Recognition Assembly. We are honored to invite Veterans who are residents of the community, relatives of former or current students and staff, district employees, and others who have made a difference in the lives of Fremd Vikings.
Veterans interested in attending will arrive at Fremd between 8:30 and 8:45 and stay until the conclusion of the assembly, around 10:00 am. The assembly will include a few brief speeches and many musical performances from our incredible student bands and choirs. All Veterans in attendance would be seated together on the main floor. They would be asked to stand or wave, during the Salute to the Armed Forces, when their respective branch is identified.
If you are interested and would like further information as the date approaches, please complete this google form.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Billittier (cbillittier@d211.org or 847-755-2826).
Monday, November 13: Lockdown Drill Information
On Monday, November 13th we will have a hard lockdown drill. A hard lockdown would be implemented should a situation arise in or around the building that could jeopardize the physical safety of students and staff. This drill will be conducted in partnership with the Palatine Police Department to ensure our procedures are in line with best practices to keep our students and staff safe.
An announcement will be made the morning of November 13th notifying students of the drill and reminding them of our RUN-HIDE-SURVIVE protocol. In an actual emergency, students must evaluate the situation and either run away from the building or shelter-in-place in a safe area. For the drill, students who choose to run will be asked to remain in an interior vestibule until the drill has been completed. Students and staff will not know in advance about the timing of the drill; however, during the drill an announcement will be made informing students and staff that it is a drill and that there is no active threat to our campus.
Immediately following the initiation of the hard lockdown drill, both our website and outdoor marquee sign will have messaging posted informing the public that we are practicing a lockdown and that it is only a drill. In preparing this communication we realize that even the mention of the phrase “hard lockdown” can be alarming. We hope you will find the knowledge that we practice our responses to crises to be reassuring.
Parents or guardians who have concerns or questions about the drills or their student’s participation should contact Assistant Principal for Buildings and Grounds, Amanda Hughes, at (847) 755-2612 or aehughes@d211.org.
School safety is everyone’s responsibility. If students are aware of concerning information they are encouraged to notify a trusted adult in the building so that we can respond appropriately. We ask the same of our parents and community members. Parents can assist us in keeping our school safe by reporting matters of concern directly to an administrator. This includes when parents have concerns about their own child’s social and emotional struggles. Parents should encourage their student to report concerning behaviors as well.
There is a Safety Concern button located on every student’s iPad and on our website to report concerns about student safety. While this information can be submitted anonymously, please know that it is much easier to address safety concerns when the reporter provides contact information. This allows administrators the opportunity to fully investigate, communicate, and at times, clarify misinformation.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership to ensure the Fremd High School community is a safe place for our students, staff, and community members.
November's Monthly Initiative
This November we will be celebrating National Gratitude Month by providing students and faculty the opportunity to send notes of gratitude to each other before departing for fall break. Members from our student services team as well as student volunteers will be stationed at the viking rug on Tuesday, November 14th where all of you may come write gratitude grams. Additionally, Fremd’s Administrative Team will be passing out hot apple cider on Friday, November 17th to show their gratitude to the student body.
