Oak Hill United School Corporation - May 2026
Hardman's Happenings
Hello Oak Hill Families!
Can you believe another school year has almost come to an end? Each year I continue to be amazed by how quickly we get to this point in the school year! This is my 29th year in education, and it truly seems like each school year goes faster and faster. I often find myself hoping time will slow down, especially as my own children near high school graduation!
I am incredibly thankful for another great year and for the opportunity to work alongside the amazing students, staff, families, and community members that make Oak Hill such a special place. While this year brought its share of challenges, as every school year does, I am proud of the way our students, staff, parents, and community worked collaboratively to overcome obstacles and keep the focus on creating a positive and successful experience for our students.
2026–2027 Student Registration Now Open
New and returning student registration for the 2026–27 school year is now open. Returning student registration is for students currently attending Oak Hill Schools in grades PK–11 who will return next year. To begin the process, log into your Skyward Family Access account and follow the directions provided. You can access Skyward by visiting our school website at ohusc.k12.in.us and clicking on the Skyward tile in the middle of the page.
If you do not remember your username or password, click the “Forgot your username or password?” link on the login screen. A reset link will be sent to your email.
New kindergarten students and new students in grades 1–12 can register by clicking on Prospective Students, then selecting Getting Started to view available registration options. Choose the option that best fits your needs.
The deadline to register new or returning students is Monday, July 6, 2026. Registering by this date helps us plan class sizes and transportation routes for the upcoming school year.
If you need technical support with online registration, please contact us at registration@ohusc.k12.in.us or call 765-395-3341 ext. 6017. For questions about the school or application processing, please contact your child’s school secretary at 765-395-3341.
While registering, please take time to review and update any contact or family information in Skyward to ensure we have the most accurate details on file.
2026–2027 Student Transportation Information
Our transportation department will soon begin working on bus routes for the 2026–27 school year. Please make sure you register your children as soon as possible if you know they will be attending Oak Hill next year. Early registration allows us to better plan transportation routes and may help ensure that you receive your preferred transportation option.
This school year, we have three buses transporting students from bus stops outside of our district, and those buses filled up very quickly. We eventually had to create waiting lists for students who registered late in the process. The earlier you can register, the better. Transportation requests are completed during the new and returning student registration process through Skyward.
This year we again partnered with the Grant County Family YMCA to provide after-school care at Sweetser Elementary for students in grades K–6. The Grant County Family YMCA has notified us that they will not be able to staff an after-school care program at Sweetser Elementary next year. However, they will continue to offer an after-school program at the Grant County Family YMCA located in Marion.
Prior to the start of school, we will gauge interest from families to determine whether transportation to the Marion location is something we may be able to explore. At this time, this does not mean transportation will be provided, only that we will look into the possibility if there is enough interest from families.

I cannot begin to thank you enough for all the support that has been given, expressed, and shown to our students, staff, and schools throughout this year. We had another amazing school year, and we could not have done it without the continued support of our families and community.
I hope you and your children have a wonderful summer. Please know that we will miss your kiddos and look forward to welcoming them back on the first day of school on Thursday, August 6, 2026! Here is a link to the 2026-27 school calendar for the Oak Hill Schools.

Sweetser Snapshot
May has been a jam-packed and exciting month at Sweetser Elementary! 🎉
We wrapped up our ILEARN Summative testing, had our 3rd graders attend the IWU Wildcat Kids Science/STEM Program, and our 4th graders enjoyed their trip to Conner Prairie. We also hosted a fun-filled Mother/Son (or Special Guest) Game Night, we celebrated a Scholastic Book Fair Week with a wonderful Family Shopping Night, and watched our talented 4th graders shine in The Wizard of Oz!
And we’re not slowing down just yet—there’s still more fun ahead in this final couple of weeks! As we wrap up the year, we want to sincerely thank you for sharing your children with us and for being such an important part of our Sweetser family. Swayzee news
Thanks for an awesome year!
As we wrap up another wonderful school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate all that our students, staff, and families have accomplished together. From exciting classroom learning and field trips to special events, performances, athletic competitions, fundraisers, and school-wide activities, this year has been filled with growth, hard work, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Thank you to our families for your continued support and partnership throughout the year. We hope everyone enjoys a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled summer break. We look forward to welcoming our students back in the fall, ready for another great year together.
To our 6th graders, we are so proud of all you have accomplished during your time with us. We wish you the very best as you move on to junior high and know you will do amazing things in the years ahead!
ILEARN Testing Announcement
We did it!!! Thank you to our families for scheduling appointments around the iLearn testing dates. This is a time in our building where the days simply are not normal. Having as many students here as possible during testing helps us keep the testing window short so that we can get back to business as usual.
Fun Run Color Run
Our Fun Run Color Fundraiser was a huge success thanks to your amazing children. We raised enough money to fund the two field trips that our students take each year as well as to fund the inflatables that we rent for our Field Day each year. This would not have been possible without your help as parents and without the hard work of the students who helped raise funds. We also would like to thank everybody who signed up to join us for the run. The weather was perfect, and we had a great time hosting everyone at the Swayzee Soccer Complex . . . so much fun, in fact that we plan to do another run in the fall! We hope to have an even better turn out and add some other awesome activities to the day. Congratulations to our top three individual fundraisers: Levi Lengacher, Rikki Skinner and Gunnar Rose.
Swayzee Students and Staff Member of the Month
Oakleigh Nelson - 5th Grade Student of the Month

Her cheerful attitude and consistent kindness make a difference to everyone around her. Oakleigh is a wonderful example of how a positive attitude can impact others, and we are so proud to recognize her for the joy and encouragement she brings to our school each day.
Grady Schuler - 6th Grade Student of the Month
Our 6th Grade Student of the Month is Grady Schuler. As our Student Council President, Grady began the year as a reluctant public speaker, but over the course of the year he has shown tremendous growth and confidence. He has embraced his leadership role and now actively seeks opportunities to speak to both students and staff. Grady’s positive growth, leadership, and willingness to step outside of his comfort zone have made a lasting impact on our school. He has set the bar high for next year’s president and will certainly be missed at Swayzee.
Greetings from Oak Hill Junior High
Greetings from Oak Hill Junior High School
It seems like it was just yesterday when I welcomed the junior high students back to school last August. This school year seems to have gone by exceptionally fast. It’s hard to believe the last day for students will be on May 21st. Even though we are quickly approaching the last day of school, our students continue to work hard and make us proud of them every day. Oak Hill Junior High has finished its ILEARN testing and we eagerly await to see how our students performed. Even though we have only a few weeks left in the school year we have many activities planned for our 7th and 8th grade students. Please see the schedule of events below:
Important Dates for Oak Hill Junior High during the last 9 week grading period
May 7th-10th: 8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip
May 11th: 8th Grade Incentive Day
May 12th: 7th Grade Incentive Day
May 18th: End of Year Student Awards Day - HS Lecture Area - parents are welcome to attend
May 20th: JH Field Day
May 21st: 7th Grade Kickball Festival/8th Grade Baseball Unit Day
May 21st: Last Student Day
The JH staff will be sad to see the 8th graders leave and go to the high school next year. It will also be bittersweet for me since I have known many of these students since they first started school at Converse Elementary. It’s amazing to realize how much they have grown over the years. I will truly miss this class as they move to high school. They have all been great students for the past two years. I wish all 8th grade students the very best and I’m sure they will all be successful as they move into high school and beyond. Good luck to the class of 2030!
The JH staff and I will be excited to welcome a new 7th grade class next year and see how this year’s 7th graders grow over the summer. As always, parents may contact Shawn Means at 765-395-3341 or by email at shawnme@ohusc.k12.in.us if they ever have any questions concerning their children.
Happy Secretary's Day
April 22nd was National Secretaries’ Day. Oak Hill Junior High took some time at the JH to celebrate Mrs. Farley for her hard work and dedication. The JH office could not function without her. Keep up the great work Mrs. Farley!
7th grade orientation (for current Swayzee Elementary 6th graders)
7th grade orientation for the current 6th graders will take place on Thursday, May 14th. Mrs. Shigley, who is the JH school counselor, will go to Swayzee Elementary and give a presentation to the students. Next year every 7th grade student will have two semesters of math, science, English, and history. Students will also have one semester of FACS, art, PE, and health. All current band and choir students will automatically be enrolled in band or choir (unless a parent contacts Mrs. Shigley or the JH office to ask for their student to be removed from their music class). The JH staff is planning to open their building to parents and students toward the end of July or early August in order for students to walk around the building and locate their lockers and classes. If you have any questions, you may call Oak Hill Junior High School at 765-395-3341, ext. 5000. Oak Hill Junior High School is looking forward to seeing its new 7th graders for the 2026-27 school year.
JH News Crew travels to Ball State
The junior high News Crew joined more than 1,000 junior high and high school students from across Indiana for the 70th Annual Journalism Day conference on the campus of Ball State University. Students attended sessions led by journalism professionals and gained valuable insight into the future of the field. One inspiring speaker was Carmella Boykin, host and producer of The Washington Post Universe, who discussed utilizing social media to spread accurate information regarding current events. They also met with Steve Rhodes, a veteran television photojournalist, who covered how to capture important and small moments from people crossing a street to the Tokyo 2020 (actually turned into 2021) Summer Olympics.
The News Crew earned four awards at Ball State University’s JDay competition: one Superior, one Excellent, and two Honorable Mentions for their bi-weekly broadcasts and photojournalism. Impressively, they competed against high school media teams from across the state in all contest categories. While on campus, the Crew also had the opportunity to meet and interview Jeremiah Johnson, sports broadcaster for the Indiana Pacers, who shared inspiring words of encouragement with the group.
OHJH meet “virtually” with young adult author
A group of 40 avid readers in 7th and 8th grade attended a virtual author visit with Alyson Gerber, author of the very popular young adult series, The Liar's Society. Gerber discussed her life with ADHD and how she became a writer. In a competition to win marketing money, Ms. Gerber dressed her best and went after it. She was one of the winners and received marketing funds to promote her books. She told students, "Do your best! Go as a professional, and give it your all! If you want something, give it your all! Dress the part! Be prepared!"
JH Game night
The JH Student Council Sponsored a game night on April 24th. There was a good turnout from both students and staff. Here are a few pictures from the night’s activities.
7th Grade FACS
Students in FACS class participated in cupcake wars with a "WATER" theme to coincide with Shark Week in their science class. There was a winner for each period. The students really enjoyed creating displays and creative cupcake flavors for the teachers to taste and rate. Great job to all the students!
Here are the winners from each class!

She also participated in Tech for the Frozen Musical, contributing her skills to ensure the production’s success. Additionally, Jordyn is involved in Art Club, Band, and Pep Band, showcasing her diverse talents and commitment to the arts and school spirit.

Jacob Morrow is the sophomore student of the month! Jacob is very well respected by his peers and appreciated by his teachers. He is one of the most polite and friendly students in the building, and he always has a smile on his face. In athletics, he's one of the hardest workers and this work ethic has helped him become a very well-rounded athlete. Most importantly, Jacob takes his academics very seriously as he always looks to take as rigorous of a schedule as possible to better prepare himself for his future endeavours in college and his career. Keep up the great work, Jacob!
Tae'Shawn Inman - Junior Student of the Month
Tae'Shawn Inman is an exceptional young man that we are fortunate to have here at Oak Hill. He is very kind to others as well as respectful. He is a student of high character along with a tremendous personality. Tae is a model student both in the classroom and on the athletic field. David McDivitt - OHHS Staff Member of the Month
I am honored to nominate David McDivitt for Teacher of the Month. With nearly 30 years of dedication to the classroom, Mr. McDivitt is a pillar of our academic community. While many might lose their sparkle after three decades, he continues to bring world history to life for his sophomores with the same energy and passion since day one.
Mr. McDivitt is known for his hands-on and often hilarious approach to geography. While his whiteboard drawings of various land masses are stylistically bold (often leaving students to guess which continent they are looking at), they serve a greater purpose. These moments of humor and creativity break down barriers, making his classroom a place where students feel comfortable engaging, laughing, and learning.
Mr. McDivitt understands that history isn’t just found in a textbook—it’s felt in the world. His commitment to organizing and leading student trips to Europe every two years is a testament to his above-and-beyond work ethic. These trips provide students with life-changing perspectives, turning abstract historical lessons into tangible, real-world experiences that they carry with them for the rest of their lives.
His influence doesn’t stop when the final bell rings. As an Assistant Coach for the football team, Coach McDivitt mentors our student-athletes, teaching them the value of discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Whether he is on the sidelines or at the front of the classroom, he is consistently building character in our youth.
We are lucky to have him at Oak Hill High School.
