Welcome!

We would like to formally welcome everyone to the Bohls Middle School Band Program. We wanted to take some time to introduce ourselves to all of our incoming beginning band parents and members! We cannot wait to see them in our band hall and make awesome music together.

*Please feel free to share this with your child.

NOTE: This e-mail is reaching you because your child is zoned for Bohls Middle School and is signed up for beginning band for the 2026-2027 school year.

Hi! My name is Mrs. Hernandez and I just completed my 23rd year of teaching and my 12th year here with Pflugerville ISD. I began my career teaching elementary music for three years, and then made the switch to middle school band these last twenty years and love it! During my time as an elementary music teacher, I completed my Level I & II Orff-Schulwerk courses with Central Texas Orff at Trinity University in San Antonio. I was also Treasurer of the Wild Horse Desert Orff Chapter; an organization that hosted many opportunities for professional development for elementary music teachers. After becoming a band director, I taught at Trautmann Middle School in Laredo, TX. I led the CCC Non-Varsity Bands to receive eight consecutive U.I.L. Sweepstakes Awards. I also taught the middle school colorguard, assisted with the varsity and sub non-varsity bands, and consistently earned the most seats in the region band. Several of my middle school students also competed (and qualified) at the high school level at the TMEA All-District and All-Region auditions. Prior to opening Bohls, I was the Director of Bands at Westview Middle School, where we earned three consecutive sweepstakes awards and three consecutive first division ratings in concert or sight reading. My bands have consistently earned superior ratings at the Sound Waves Band Festival in New Braunfels, TX and the Pride of Texas Music Festival.

Prior to becoming an educator, I earned a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Texas State University in San Marcos. During this time, I was active in the Bobcat Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Tau Beta Sigma Sorority for Bands, and Golden Key International Honor Society. In 2010, I also earned a Masters in Music Education from Texas A & M University in Kingsville, TX. I received the TMEA Graduate Scholarship while completing my graduate work.

When I am not working, I love to travel. I love America's National Parks, and seeing all of them is definitely a bucket list item. I enjoy hiking, biking, reading, gardening, and playing video games. I live in Round Rock with my wonderful husband.

Greetings! My name is Derrell Wallace, and I am beginning my 11th year in education and my 6th year in Pflugerville ISD. I started my teaching career in my hometown of Terrell, Texas, where I taught for four years. Giving back to the community that shaped me was incredibly meaningful, and it remains one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. During my time there, I helped lead the middle school band program to its first-ever superior ratings in non-varsity ensemble performance. I was also heavily involved with the high school marching band, leading the visual program and assisting with full ensemble rehearsals.

Before becoming a band director, I attended Texas A&M University–Commerce, where I earned my degree in Music Education. While there, I served as principal tubist in the university wind ensemble, performed in jazz band and chamber ensembles, served as president of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and marched with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. I later attended Oklahoma City University, where I earned a Master’s degree in Tuba Performance. During that time, I assisted with several marching band programs throughout North Texas and Central Oklahoma.

Outside of the classroom, I continue to stay active in the marching arts as the tuba lead for Music City Drum and Bugle Corps.

In my free time, I enjoy kayaking, fishing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with my family.

I am excited to continue building a student-centered culture at Bohls Middle School where positive influence, growth, and community are at the heart of everything we do. I believe one of the greatest things we can offer to ourselves and others is our time, and I look forward to investing that time in the students and families of the Bohls community.
