Latest from the Library - Ms. Thomas

Enjoy this weekend’s poem from, Sing a Song of Seasons: A Nature Poem for Each Day of the School Year.

“Seven for a Secret”

Anonymous

Seven black birds in a tree,

Count them and see what they be.

One for sorrow

Two for joy

Three for a girl

Four for a boy;

Five for silver

Six for gold

Seven for a secret

That’s never been told.

The students are loving the new Dream Space! Thank you to all who made it possible. “Wow!” is what I heard over and over when the kids saw it for the first time.

With two cycles of specials behind us, we concluded library orientation. The younger students practiced following directions and learning the magic of shelf markers. The 4th and 5th graders reviewed the routines of the KRS media center space. The students signed their names to the KRS Library Constitution.

Ahoy, Mateys! Monday, September 19 is one of Ms. Thomas’s favorite holidays, International Talk Like A Pirate Day. For those of you who remember Cat Eye Thomas, the most well-read pirate on the high seas, from her visit during COVID, here is a link to her video.

4th and 5th Grade KRS Chorus

Dear Parents,

As you may be aware, 4th and 5th graders are able to sign up for chorus. The chorus rehearsals will be on D Days at KRS before school in the multipurpose room from 7:55 AM to 8:35 AM. They will not miss any class time due to rehearsals. There will be a total of 30 minutes of singing time from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM.

Please drop your child off at school between 7:50am and 7:55am. I will meet students at the main entrance and escort them to the multipurpose room. Do not bring them any earlier. I like to make sure that I am here before any students arrive so no one is in the building unsupervised.

In preparation for our Winter Concert we will meet on the following days:

KRS D Days:

September: 20th, 29th

October: 10th, 19th, 27th

November: 4th, 16th, 28th

December: 6th, 14th

Save the Dates!!

  • KRS Winter Concert: Thursday, December 15th, 2022

  • District Chorus Concert: Wednesday, March 29th, 202 @ MJS (evening performance)

  • KRS Spring Concert: Thursday, May 11th, 2023 @ MJS 7:00 pm (evening performance)

Throughout the year, reminders will be sent out through a program called Remind. I will also be sending out emails periodically. However, Remind is the best way to communicate in real time, should I need to cancel a rehearsal. Please provide the emails and phone numbers for anyone that will need to be aware of updates and information in the google form provided.

If your student is interested in signing up for chorus, please submit this Google Form electronically prior to our first rehearsal. I look forward to working with your students.

Thank you,

Ms. Porter

News from School Counselor Mr. Levine

This week, Mr. Levine visited first and fifth grade classrooms for guidance lessons. In first grade, Mr. Levine discussed the role of the school counselor and in 5th grade he discussed how you can “practice” soft skills such as kindness, empathy, and compassion.

Additionally, Mr. Levine started 3rd grade Lunch Bunch groups this week.

Hello Student Resource Officer (SRO) Downs!

Thank you to the Madison Student Resource Officer Downs for visiting KRS today to say hello to the students in every classoom. We sincerely appreciate his dedication to our schools and his support!

Madison Education Foundation

Thank you to all who came to “An Evening of Glamping” and bid on the auction… at the event or from home. It was a beautiful night and a hugely successful fundraiser for MEF. We raised over $25,000 for our schools! But of course, we could always use more. Stay tuned for more ways to help MEF - including continuing to fuel up at the “Giving Pump” - Pump 6 at the Madison Shell Station. One cent from every gallon purchased goes back to MEF!
