"Get'cha Head in the Game!"
Seniors in Ms. Prendergast's English 4 class have been busy making original board games. Creating a written proposal, the physical game and pieces, written instructions, and a video and print ad are all part of this group project. Students test the games and then revise the instructions before giving a final presentation to the class.
This fun project teaches collaboration and teamwork, effective communication and cooperation, idea development and creativity, problem solving, time management, meeting deadlines and organizational skills. What a fun final group project before graduation!
Deer Skulls, Blue Jeans, and Boxing Gloves
What do these all have in common? You can find them being transformed by Ms. Titze's Drawing and Painting class students!
The artists of SHS are working on an unconventional canvas project. Students were asked to pick out an out-of-the-ordinary object to paint on and design a concept. This project teaches students that you don't necessarily need a fancy canvas or paper to create a piece; you can use what you have at home for a more cost-efficient approach.
Time for Curiosity--Time for Science Lab
The SHS science wing has been filled with hands-on learning this week! The freshmen have been studying the periodic table and chemical reactions and turning copper pennies into "gold" and "silver" in Mrs. Meland's physical science class.
Meanwhile, sophomores in biology with Ms. Chan dissected crayfish to learn more about internal and external anatomy. This activity allowed students to observe the unique features of this freshwater arthropod, including its gills, digestive system, and muscular structure.
Working as a team, following procedures, and recording data are all additional skills that students get to learn in labs. What great opportunities to grow!
Senior Pics
Seniors who have not turned in a senior picture and a baby photo need to get them to Mrs. Gregg, ASAP!
Prepping for Prom!
SHS students will show up in their fanciest attire to celebrate the 2025 Prom, and thanks to the dedication and creativity of the SHS Prom committee and their advisors, Ms. Titze and Mrs. DeSpiegler, the night "Under the Lanterns" should be one to remember!
This year, students have the option to meet for a meal and entertainment before the Grand March begins at 8:00. The dance will be held until midnight, and a post prom filled with fun and prizes will finish up around 3am.
Homework Help
Stay caught up with your homework and grades by participating in Homework Help every Thursday in the SHS library from 3:20-5:00 pm. Come for a quiet space to work and extra support from teachers.
GET TO KNOW YOUR SECRETARY: Deb Paegler
Years at SHS: I started working as Mr. Frederick's secretary 2 years ago in February.
What is one of your favorite things about working at SHS? Seeing the students mature as they get older. I also love watching them dress up for the fun days, during Homecoming, FFA Week, FCCLA Week, etc.
What is your favorite dish from the cafeteria? Crispitos!!!
How do you spend your summer breaks? I work at the High School in the summer, but we enjoy camping with our kids and grandkids every weekend we can.
What is something interesting about yourself? I can't prove it, but there is talk from earlier generations that my family is related to Abraham Lincoln.
