What another busy week we had! We wrapped up our fable/folktale unit. We certainly enjoyed reading these stories and learning the morals of each one. After the Thanksgiving break we will return to Lucy Caulkin’s reading and writing units.
I have tested several students on their red rainbow words! Great job! Please make certain you are helping your child with these rainbow words- only do one color at a time and then move on to the next color once they have been checked. Also continue to listen to your child read every night.
We hope you all have a wonderful week!

This week:
Math- We worked on “add to” and “take from” story problems and “put together” and “take apart” story problems. We wrote an equation that matched the story problem.
Reading/Phonics- We reviewed letter sounds, trick words, and also practiced oral segmenting and blending. We finished our pilot fable/folktale unit.
Writing- We continued writing the story elements from the fables using a variety of graphic organizers.
Social Studies- We continued our study on historic figures: Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark with Sacagawea (exploration), Theodore Roosevelt (National Parks and the environment), George Washington Carver, and Ruby Bridges.
Next week:
Math- We will continue working on story problems; we will compare and solve story problems of different types.
Reading/Phonics- we will work on rhyme recognition, onset fluency, blending, isolating final sounds, segmenting onset-rime, adding initial phonemes, deleting initial phonemes, substituting phonemes. We will begin our study on word detectives after we finish our Dibels and Map testing.
Writing- We will begin writing topic books after we finish our Dibels and Map testing.
Social Studies- Our study on historic figures continues: Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark with Sacagawea (exploration), Theodore Roosevelt (National Parks and the environment), George Washington Carver, and Ruby Bridges.

Dear families,
We had a chilly but wonderful week! Our students had so much fun during recess, playing with the leaves and making piles. We hope all families enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving break!"
This week:
Reading: The students answered key questions about a book or story. They recorded their answers in a graphic organizer, either by writing or drawing.
Writing: Students participated in literacy centers to practice reading and writing words with the syllables ma-me-mi-mo-mu. Some centers focused on phonemic awareness (identifying beginning and middle sounds), vocabulary, and sentence writing.
Language: The students learned the features of simple sentences, including the use of capital letters and periods.
Math: The students solved "Put Together/Take Apart" problems, in which the total, one addend, or both addends were unknown. This built on work from kindergarten, where students learned to compose numbers up to 10 in different ways.
Science: The students learned about the water cycle.
Next week:
Reading: The students listen to stories and, with support, identify the main idea and details.
Writing: The students write or draw details about a story to support the main idea of the story.
Language: The students learn the features of simple sentences, including the use of capital letters and periods.
Math: The students solve Compare, Difference Unknown problems, reinforcing their understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Science: The students continue learning about the water cycle.
