West Point El. Parent Update
Week of March 2, 2025
Dear West Point Families,
Happy March! We have a mix of weather conditions in the forecast for the upcoming week. Please remind students to dress appropriately for the weather and to be prepared for changing conditions.
This week is Read Across America Week. Our PTA and teachers have created a fun week of activities that encourage students to have fun while reading. We would LOVE to have every class read to this week by a volunteer. Please sign up on the following link if you can volunteer to read to a class this week. Thank you!

Educational concern forms are now available online through Friday, March 28. These forms are optional but are available to parents if you would like us to consider special factors when making class placements for the 2025-2026 school year. Please use the following link to access the form.

As a reminder, our March PTA meeting is this Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the faculty room.
Here are four important things to know for the coming week.
- Our yearbook cover contest is now open for all students. Please see the "School Information" section below for more information. All entries are due in the office this Friday, March 7.
- Class pictures are this Wednesday, March 5.
- School musical tickets are now on sale in the office for $5.00 each.
- Friday, March 7 is the last day of 3rd term. There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, March 10 for our Teacher Professional Day.
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary
Reminder from last week!
We are asking everyone to review the following procedures for our morning drop off and afternoon pick up lane.
Please do not stop your car on the crosswalk. It is there to help students and parents cross safely.
Please cross at the crosswalk. Crossing in the parking lot encourages students to run out into the parking lot, and passing cars might not see them. On snowy days, the crosswalk is cleared along with the sidewalks so that students and parents can cross safely.
Always pull all the way forward in the drop off/pick up lane, and encourage your students to get out quickly. This courtesy helps the line of cars move quickly, efficiently, and safely. If you would like to drop off your student closer to the front of the school, please park, get out, and walk your student to their area.
Do not go around vehicles that are dropping off or picking up students, unless the crossing guard waves you to do so (which occasionally happens at the end of the day.) Please wait in line to drop off your student.

Experience the Magic
Magical Manners
This week's manner is "Know Your Contact Information." In today's digital age, more and more students do not know essential contact information such as their address, their parents' phone numbers, etc. We are encouraging parents to help your students learn this information. Maybe you can reward them with a fun incentive for being able to tell you their important information. This is an important skill for keeping them safe. This manner is p. 11 from the front of the book. Thank you for displaying this manner in your classroom and discussing it with your students!52 Modern Manners for Kids
March's LETTERING Focus - W for Wildcat Hanshake
This month we are moving to W - West Point Wildcat Handshake. Greeting someone warmly with a handshake shows respect to others, helps others feel welcome, and portrays confidence. Be sure to ask them about the things they are doing in their LETTERing books! They will get an opportunity at the end of the month to practice their Wildcat handshake with different members of the school and community.
March Brag Tags
This is our first week for students to earn their March attendance and reading brag tags. Please continue to encourage your students to earn their brag tags! Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.

Attendance Adds Up
Please be aware of your students' attendance and help them to be at school every day. We understand that students who are sick need to be home. (Please see the above DSD Health Protocol.) However, missing a day of school here and there adds up quickly and puts students behind. Thank you for your support!
