A Message From Mrs. Carmody
Hello, Fremont Families!
Welcome to October! I hope that many of you were able to attend the Mundelein parade. Our students love to see familiar faces at these events!
As our benchmark assessments have been completed, teachers are using these data points to inform their instruction. Talking about school with your child can help them process what they have learned. To get more than a one word answer from your child, try swapping general questions for specific, lighthearted prompts:
Instead of "How was school?": Try "What made you laugh today?" or "What was the most interesting thing you learned?"
Focus on connections: Ask "Who did you sit with at lunch?" or "What did you play at recess?"
Talk about learning: Ask "What was one tough problem you solved today?"
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody
Principal
Our 2nd graders in Mrs. Porto's class had a visit from an extra special guest! Mrs. Carmody stopped by as a Surprise Mystery Reader to share one of her favorite books with the students. The kids loved guessing who the mystery guest was and were all smiles during storytime.

Extra Clothes
We kindly ask all parents to send an extra, labeled set of seasonally appropriate clothing (including shirt, pants, underwear, and socks) to be kept at school, regardless of your student's grade level. Accidents, spills, or unexpected muddy activities can happen to students of any age, and having a spare set on hand allows us to quickly and comfortably resolve the situation without having to call home and disrupt your day. If the spare set is used, please remember to send in a replacement set the next day. Thank you for your cooperation!
Connected and Confident
By October, our classroom communities are in full swing! Predictable morning and sleep routines build confidence and ensure students feel secure in their physical and emotional space each day.
Instructional Days: Please reserve family travel for district breaks. Missing consecutive days can create learning gaps and cause unnecessary stress.
Health Check: Children must remain home until they are symptom/fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
We are always better together when every student is present to share in our classroom growth!
Student Attendance Monitoring, Roles & Responsibilities
Regular school attendance is essential for student success, building habits for lifelong learning, and fostering strong school connections. To support our students, families and staff work together to identify and address attendance challenges early. Below is an overview of key roles and responsibilities in monitoring and supporting attendance:
Assistant Principals: Lead regular data monitoring, execute family contracts/plans, coordinate truancy filings when mandated by Illinois School Code, and oversee MTSS tier alignment.
Teachers & Classroom Staff: Record accurate daily attendance, flag emerging patterns early to building leadership, and provide missed academic work compassionately upon student's return.
Student Support Personnel (Social Workers, Counselors): Conduct Tier 3 diagnostic assessments, provide SEL support, and connect families with outside wraparound resources.
Families & Guardians: Establish consistent morning routines, communicate absences promptly, and collaborate with administration on Family Attendance Plans.
Excused Absences Include
- Illness (physical, mental or behavioral) Please note, after 3+ consecutive days of an illness related absence, a doctor's note is required on day 4 in order for the absence to be considered excused moving forward
- Medical/Therapeutic appointments
- Religious Holidays
- Family emergencies or civic events
- Parenting or safety-related concerns
Vacations
- Vacations during school are discouraged and count as unexcused absences.
We encourage you to keep your child IN SCHOOL before and after field trips and special events.
