If you have not yet logged into your student’s Heartland email address through Microsoft or Google on the device you’re using, it will ask for the Heartland email address and password the first time.

• If you are a new student this year, the default password is Welcome2026!

• If you became a student last year, please try Welcome2025!

• If you’ve already created a password but don’t remember it, please email helpdesk@heartlandcharterschool.com for a reset.

SORA does not require a username or password directly, but it only recognizes Heartland student email addresses once the student is logged into their Microsoft or Google account on that device.(sometimes the parents are logged into their account without realizing it) **See Image top right

Your student’s email address is their five-digit Local ID followed by @heartlandcharterschool.com (for example: 99999@heartlandcharterschool.com).

Once you are logged into the device with the correct email and password, you should be able to access SORA automatically without needing to sign in again.

Please let me know if this works for you. If not, you can email helpdesk@heartlandcharterschool.com to reset your Microsoft password.

SORA is a student reading app. It's the best way for you to access ebooks and audiobooks at home, or on the go.

SORA is available as a downloadable app, just visit the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and search for “Sora, by OverDrive”. You can also access Sora on any device using your web browser. Simply log on to soraapp.com to get started.

Sora makes it easy for you to sign in with the login information you're already using at school. Download the Sora app or go to the Sora Site.

Select Find my school to get started or search by school and type Heartland Charter School and use your student email address to login.

First is the MAIN MENU- Here you can:

1) Add the "Kern Library" to your collection OR even select your nearest public library ( it may require your library card info).

2) Adjust settings such as a "Dyslexic Font", "Contrast Settings", "Language", info on your holds or downloads etc....

3) Sign out

On this page you can see how many copies are in your digital collection and how many are currently available as well as browse similar titles.

Can't find a title you are looking for? The titles available to your student depend on their grade level.

Access Levels:

Juvenile Titles : K-6

Young Adult Titles: 7-8

Adult Titles 9th- 12th & staff

If you would like your student to have access to a title they cannot see please email library@heartlandcharterschol.com and we can assign that title to your student.

Borrow with a tap to begin reading immediately. If it's a title you've read before, Sora will drop you exactly where you last left off.

If a title is not currently available, you'll instead see the option to place a hold. Tap the clock icon to see your estimated wait time.

You can also pick up where you left off on any of your self-selected loans.

If you have any assignments, they will appear at the top of the Home tab. You can view the due date or click to open the title. Assigned titles cannot be renewed or returned early.
