Mustang Message
August 15, 2025
A note from Ms. Quinney
Mustang Families,
What a wonderful first week we had! I hope your child shared some good things with you about their first week here.
Often if you ask your children about their day, they will say, "it was fine" or something along those lines. Here are some questions you could try that might get a little more out of them!
- What was the best thing that happened at school today?
- What did you learn that you didn't know yesterday?
- Who did you play with at recess? What games did you play?
- What did you eat for lunch?
- What made you laugh today?
- Did you do something kind for someone today?
- Did you help anyone today, or did someone help you?
- What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
- What was the most interesting thing your teacher said today?
- What was your favorite activity today?
- What was one thing you learned today that I might not know?
- Who made you smile today?
- When did you feel most proud of yourself today?
Thank you for sharing your children with us. Seeing their smiling faces and being in their classrooms makes me so proud to be their principal!
Thank you,
Carrie Quinney
Principal
Murchison Elementary
Traffic rules
I know the parking lot has been especially busy the last few days. However, there are lots of little ones around so these times are even more important to make sure we are following all of the traffic rules.
Please make sure you are using the crosswalk to set a good example for your children. We also ask that you park and walk your child in or use the car loop to drop them off at the curb; please do not drop students off in the parking lot or across the street and have them walk on their own. Our traffic rules apply to golf carts as well as cars.
Thank you for helping keep our students safe!

Mustang spirit wear is available for purchase! We have select sizes still available for immediate delivery and a second order will be delivered early October. You can place your order at the following link or use the QR code on the flier. Last day to order will be September 28, 2025.
Happy New School Year!
Save the Date: Grandparents Day
We have noticed over the years that grandparents love to shop at the Book Fair! So we have moved the date of Grandparents Day to be Monday, September 22. I know this does not align with National Grandparents Day so I wanted to give you advance notice of the date!
Yearbooks from 2024-2025
The 24-25 yearbooks have completed printing and are awaiting delivery. As soon as they are delivered to the school they will be distributed to students' classrooms. Our PTO apologizes for the delay and expects yearbooks to be in soon!
Accountability Ratings
School ratings for the state of Texas were posted today at https://txschools.gov/ I am excited to say that Murchison is again an A rated campus due to the hard work of our teachers and staff!
When you go to the website, you will search for Murchison Elem in Pflugerville ISD. The initial ratings that show up are from 2023-2024. If you click on Additional Details, you can see the 2024-2025 ratings.
Morning Arrival
Make plans to arrive to school on time! Students who need to eat breakfast at school may arrive at 7:05 a.m. The building will be locked until 7:05 a.m. so please make sure your students do not arrive before that.
All students will be released to their class at 7:20 a.m. If your child is not eating breakfast, they should arrive between 7:20 - 7:30.
The first bell rings at 7:30 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 7:35 a.m. Students are expected to be in their seats ready for instruction at 7:35 a.m.
Dismissal Procedures
There are 4 ways students will be dismissed at Murchison.
1. EDP: Paid after school care that is run by the district. Teachers will walk students to the cafeteria to be checked in by the EDP director.
2. Daycare: Teachers will walk students to the bus loop to wait with a designated staff member who will ensure they are picked up by the daycare you have arranged.
3. Walker/Biker: All walkers/bikers will be dismissed at 2:45 (2:40 for first week or two). If you would like to walk from home or park and pick up your child, they will dismiss with walker/bikers. Students will be brought out to a designated area in the back of the school. Teachers will wait with students being picked up by a parent. Signs will be posted where each grade level will line up. Please wait in the assigned area for your child. If your children are walking home without a parent, the oldest sibling will pick up the younger siblings and head home.
4. Car rider: At Murchison we use a website dismissal system. Every family has a designated number. Parents will drive through the car line with the school supplied car tag from this year to display. You will receive a plastic tag to hang on your mirror as well as a yellow paper tag you can attach to the back of the visor. If you do not have the car tag, you will be directed to park and go into the office to verify ID to pick up your child. Students will be staged inside with teachers until they are dismissed by the system. Please do not get out of your car at any time, just pull up to the next available spot and we will bring your child to your car. All students must enter the passenger side of the vehicle. When your child is in the car, please move forward so we can keep the line moving. The car line is a “drive through” line so you do not get out of your car and need to pull all the way forward to keep the line moving.
** Please keep your tag in your car even if your child is not normally a car rider. You will need it in the event that you change for the day. (Inclement weather, appointment, etc.)
Once students leave the classroom/building, they will not be allowed to go back for water bottles, lunchboxes, jackets, etc. They are responsible for packing their items at the end of the day and can retrieve forgotten items the next day.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation to ensure all students are dismissed safely. Let’s have a great year!
CAAC
A Campus Academic Advisory Council (CAAC) is established on each campus to assist the principal. The council meets 4-6 times per year for the purpose of site-based decision-making. During the CAAC meeting, we review the Campus Improvement Plan and discuss if we are meeting our goals and how to improve upon them.
I have an available business, community, and parent spot on our CAAC. Please email me at carrie.quinney@pfisd.net if you are interested in serving!
Breakfast and Lunch at Murchison
Breakfast in the cafeteria is free for all students in PfISD. If you want your child to eat breakfast at school, the doors open at 7:05 am for breakfast eaters. For lunch, students can bring a lunch from home or purchase a lunch from the cafeteria.
Free and reduced lunch applications are still available and need to be filled out every year. To fill out an application for free and reduced lunch for the 2025-2026 school year, please go here: https://www.pfisd.net/programs/food-and-child-nutrition-services/free-and-reduced-meals-application-and-socioeconomic-information-form
Breakfast and lunch menus can be found here: https://pfisd.nutrislice.com/menu/murchison-elementary-school
If you would like to eat lunch with your child, you will need to badge in using our Raptor kiosk. You may eat at the tables in the front foyer or at the picnic tables outside. You may only eat with your own child. I would like to kindly suggest that you do not eat lunch with your child during the first couple weeks of school, though. Lunch is a social time for our students and it helps them get reacclimated to school by eating in the cafeteria with their peers.
Label Personal Items
In just a few short weeks, I predict our Lost and Found will be overflowing! Be proactive in making sure your personal belongings don't end up in Lost and Found by labeling your child's jackets, hoodies, lunch boxes, and water bottles.
Cut-off Time for Early Pick-Up and Changes in Going Home
If you need to pick your child up from school early or change the way they go home for the day, these changes need to be made before 2:15 p.m. Please call the front office at 512-594-6000 for changes that need to be made that day but also communicate these changes with your child's teacher in advance, if possible. For example, if you know your child needs to leave early for a doctor's appointment and your child's teacher knows about the change the day before, they can help to have your child packed up and ready to go so you don't have to wait as long in the front office!
Classroom Deliveries
All classroom deliveries will be made at 9:30 a.m. If your child forgot something at home and needs it delivered to their classroom, make sure to drop it off before 9:30 a.m.

Any volunteers or visitors must check in to the front office to receive a Raptor badge. They must also check out from the office and exit the front doors when they leave; they cannot exit other doors.
