Unified Champions Update Unified Champions Update

Mustang Families,

I am so excited to announce that we are receiving a Texas Banner for our efforts through Unified Champions last year. We one of only six elementary schools across the state to receive this honor! We will receive the banner during a schoolwide assembly on Monday.

For more information about Unified Champions, check out: https://www.specialolympics.org/what-we-do/youth-and-schools/unified-champion-schools

I am so proud of this achievement! We will continue our Unified movement this year, in hopes to receive a National Banner next!

As you may know, we have transitioned to a new Math curriculum this year called Bluebonnet. Some parents have had questions about Bluebonnet, so our district Math Coordinator put together this parent one-pager. She is also hosting a virtual information session next Wednesday from 5:00-5:30. See more information, including the meeting link, on this flyer.

Hello MES Gardeners & Nature-lovers!

Please RSVP for our October 3rd MES Garden Clean-up by clicking HERE. A headcount estimate will help us organize supplies to clear out the gardens. With enough hands-on-deck, we can also assign volunteers to assist in other locations on campus that need additional support. If all volunteer and supply slots are filled, you are still welcomed to join us. You can simply RSVP and bring your green thumb!

Volunteer Activities:

We will be picking up campus trash, removing plastic from solarization, pulling weeds, and adding fresh dirt to the garden beds. We will be keeping an eye on the weather! If we are lucky enough to receive heavy rain that morning, we will postpone the work day.

What to Wear:

Please plan to wear comfortable outdoor work clothes (that can get dirty) and closed-toe shoes (there are "grass burs" that can poke skin). Sun hats and gloves are highly recommended.

What to Bring:

  • Filled water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Garden gloves
  • Your favorite garden tools (labeled with your name and contact info)

We look forward to meeting up with you soon!

In order to be approved for free or reduced lunch, families must reapply every year. We do not want to miss anyone, so encourage all of our families to apply! The application can be found here: https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application

Families have been grandfathered in from last year through our "grace period." However, the grace period has now ended. If you have not reapplied for this year, please make sure you reapply ASAP!

Breakfast is free to all PfISD students regardless of economic status.

Parents, we have the exciting opportunity for New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-winning author Margaret Peterson Haddix to present to our students in grades 3-5 on October 8th! She will be discussing her process as an author as well as her newest duology, Moonleapers, about a girl whose first phone connects her to a network of time travelers who want to change the world.

Please use this link to purchase one or both of the Moonleapers books to be signed by Margaret on the day of the event and delivered to your student! https://bookpeople.com/list/margaret-peterson-haddix-webb-middle-school-and-murchison-elementary

Thank you so much and we are so excited to have our students welcome her to Murchison!

Please note: only 3rd through 5th grades will be invited to this event. Thank you for understanding if you have students in other grade levels; we will have more fun live events coming soon for them!
