What is happening in the classroom?
ELA w/ Mrs. Remington
We are fully into The Giver now, and the kids are working hard to demonstrate their proficiency in understanding and analyzing how and why a character changes, as well as identifying the theme and how it develops throughout the story. We recently celebrated success on the vocabulary standard — 80% of the class met the standard, so they earned a free period to enjoy themselves! We anticipate having The Giver test in a couple of weeks, and once we finish the novel, we plan to watch the movie to compare it to the book.
Literature w/ Ms. Maurais
We’ve just wrapped up our Hero’s Journey unit in Literature class! Students crafted their own original short stories, carefully planning their plot points, drafting, revising, and polishing their final pieces. As we move into April, we’re diving into our big poetry unit. To start, students will embark on a figurative language scavenger hunt to refresh their knowledge of literary devices. From there, we’ll explore and analyze different types of poetry, uncovering deeper meanings within the text. Throughout the unit, students will create their own place poems, songs, and other creative works, bringing their unique voices to the art of poetry.
Science w/ Ms. Cloutier
Hello! We have finally started our last unit of the year, Chemistry! We certainly move fast through this unit to get them prepared for the high school pace. Please ask your student if they have any homework or anything to study for science class, as they most likely will.
Math w/ Mr. Redstone
Students have completed Unit 4. In this unit students learned how to solve linear equations as well as solving systems of equations. Students learned three different ways to solve a linear equation. They are by graphing, by substitution or by elimination.
We have moved on to Unit 5. In this unit we will be studying functions.
Social Studies w/ Mr. Oliver
In Social Studies we have wrapped up an extensive unit on the creation of the Constitution. We focused primarily on Compromises made during this Process. We are now going to move on to reading the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. As we look forward to the Spring, I plan to present information about Economics, Personal Finance, as well as continuing to analyze the functions of Government (our Government) in context to current events. As always, the Pacing Guide found on Google Classroom will show what students are doing on a day-to-day basis.
