Dear Friends and Families of MLD,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Community Meeting this morning and along the parade route for our annual Halloween celebration! The creativity, smiles, and sense of community on display made for a festive end to the week. Thank you to all the families who joined in the fun and helped make the morning such a success.
Over the past two weeks, our teachers have been hard at work engaging in professional learning focused on our new Inquiry-Based Science curriculum. Their enthusiasm has been infectious, and they are eager to begin implementing their new Science units. An inquiry-based approach encourages students to think and act like scientists—posing questions, investigating phenomena, testing ideas, and communicating what they discover. It emphasizes curiosity, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration, helping students build a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and the world around them.
Next month, our third and fifth graders will participate in the CogAT screener, which is administered over three days. The CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) is one of several tools used by RSU 21 to help identify students for Gifted and Talented (GT) eligibility. As we head into some uncertain times, we recognize that we may have families in our community who will struggle with food security. We have several agencies at the district and school level working with us to provide food to families who may need temporary or long term support. If you find yourself in that position and would like support, please send an email to myself, our School Counselor Brandy Thompson, or our school liaison, Sarah McAtamney. All requests will be handled with confidentiality and discretion.
As we head into a sunny but chilly weekend, I hope you find time to enjoy the crisp fall air, maybe a walk among the changing leaves—or simply a cozy afternoon at home.
