A message from Megan Christiansen

Dear Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Members,

It is truly an honor to join the Moulton-Udell Community School District as your new superintendent. I am grateful for the warm welcome I have already received, and I look forward to building strong partnerships with each of you as we work together for the success of our students.

My commitment is simple: I am here to support you. Together, we will strengthen our school culture, ensure high levels of learning for all students, and create opportunities that prepare our young people for bright futures. I believe every student deserves to feel valued, challenged, and celebrated, and I am eager to work alongside our dedicated staff, supportive families, and engaged community to make this happen.

Being a part of the Moulton community means more to me than just working in the school building. You will see me at activities, events, and around town, because I believe strong schools are built in partnership with strong communities. I want to hear your ideas, celebrate your successes, and listen when challenges arise.

Please know my door is always open. Whether you are a student with a suggestion, a parent with a question, a staff member with an idea, or a community member who wants to connect, I welcome the opportunity to visit with you.

I look forward to the year ahead and to all we will accomplish together. Thank you for the opportunity to serve this incredible district.

With appreciation,

Megan Christiansen
Superintendent
Moulton-Udell Community School District

The Anxious Generation by Haidt

🧠 The Anxious Generation — What Parents Should Know

📱 Four Harms of Excessive Screen Use

  1. Social Deprivation – less face-to-face time with others

  2. Sleep Deprivation – disrupted sleep from late-night scrolling

  3. Attention Fragmentation – harder to focus and learn

  4. Addiction – apps designed to keep kids hooked

đź”’ A Safety Paradox

  • Overprotected in real life (less independence)

  • Underprotected online (more exposure to risks)

âś… What We Can Do Together

  • Delay smartphones & social media (aim for high school age)

  • Phone-free school days for better focus & connection

  • Encourage play & independence (outside, chores, part-time jobs)

  • Set family norms (screen-free dinners, device limits at night)

  • Work as a community so kids know “everyone’s doing it”

👨‍👩‍👧 Together, families and schools can help kids thrive in healthier, more connected ways.

I have copies of this book in my office if you would like to check it out!
