Message from Ms. Gullo

Dear Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you, your child(ren), and family doing well. We, as a world, country, state, county, and Yellow Springs community are in the eighth month of a global pandemic. During this time we have all grown in our abilities to handle change, cope with stress, and to be flexible. We all look forward to a time when we can return to the routines we are used to. Until that time, we at Yellow Springs, stay committed to providing the best education possible for our students. We appreciate your partnership in this journey.

We thank you for and appreciate all that you are doing as a family to support your child(ren) in their learning. We know it is not easy and we know it is not perfect. Please continue to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions, concerns, or want to talk about your child’s progress.

In the coming week, our teachers will be holding parent/teacher conferences. If you have not already, please schedule a time to meet with your child’s teacher. This will be a great time to collaborate and talk about your child’s progress so far this school year.

A reminder for families regarding grading for the school year. All subject areas will be assigning grades and following the FCPS grading policy. (Social competencies will not be graded.) This includes grades in our specials courses (art, music, and physical education). It will be important for students to complete the work assigned from all classes, including specials classes. If your child is having challenges completing assigned work from art, music, and physical education, please contact your child’s specials teacher. Email contact information is here for your convenience:

If your child has missing assignments, please reach out to your child’s teacher, so collaboration can occur to help your child complete assignments.

Thank you again for your partnership in your child’s education. We appreciate all you are doing to help your child SOAR!

Exciting News: BOOK EXCHANGE IS BACK!

It may be a virtual learning world, but Mrs. Hyatt cannot wait to have physical books back in the hands of students!

How will it work?

Students use the YSES Library Media Center catalog to place books on hold. Then, on scheduled days, families pick up their bagged/bundled books from the school’s front vestibule during office hours.

How does our family get started?

Step 1: First, access our Curbside Pickup Information for specific details. Important Note: Media classes will be asychronous in weeks with curbside book pickup. There are no Google meets for Media the week of October 19th.

Step 2: Next, complete this quick Parental Acknowledgement Form.

Step 3: Your child may begin placing books on hold!

See our How-To Guide. Students will also receive guided instruction on placing holds during library class.

Square 1 Art Fundraiser - UPDATE

Students have used their Art Google Meet sessions to create a picture for our virtual Square 1 Art Fundraiser. A photograph of the completed artwork will need to be submitted to the student's assignment in Schoology for grading purposes.

Once that is done, families can proceed with following instructions regarding how to upload their child's photograph to the Square 1 Art website and place an online order of items showcasing your child's artwork. Those directions are here: Square 1 Art Uploading and Ordering Instructions

In order to have your order benefit the Yellow Springs ES art department, the photograph of the artwork will need to be uploaded to the Square 1 Art website by October 20th.

Online orders will need to be placed by November 5th to guarantee delivery to your residence before the end of December.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Shields-Roberson (kristin.shields@fcps.org)
