IA ServiceLearningSeptember 2024

Dear IA Juniors and Seniors,

I hope everyone has had a great start to the school year!

At this point, Seniors should have a minimum of 12 CAS experiences and reflections. I will be chatting with students in their Core classes in late September and early October. By October 15, you should have 13.

CAS is NOT something that can be all at once...not all at the end, not all in the beginning, not all in the middle. It is continuous engagement throughout the 18 months of your Diploma Programme. Think of CAS as an 18 month internal assessment...one a month (minimum) for 18 months.

Juniors should have 1 experience and reflection from the Junior Service Day!

If you have any questions, please reach out!

Class of 2026 Service Days! Class of 2026 Service Days!

From September 4-6, IA Juniors from all three campuses took part in the annual Junior Service Day. Students volunteered at Gleaners, The Children's Center, Grace Centers of Hope and Forgotten Harvest Farm. Over three days, you and our chaperones...

Harvested over 28,000 pounds of corn at Forgotten Harvest Farm

Boxed 830 boxes of food for senior citizens at Gleaners

Landscaped playgrounds, a community garden and homes in Little Grace Village

Landscaped grounds and meeting areas at The Children's Center as well as sorted and prepared the Boutique

The impact of these efforts is enormous. Every pound of corn equals one meal. Every box of food equals ten meals. Every hour of time providing service is equal to $33.49. With 358 volunteers serving at least 3 hours each, that equals time valued at $35,968. 28,000 pounds of corn equals 28,000 meals, and 830 boxes of food equals 8,300 meals.
