The LMS Express
November 16, 2024
Hello all,
The first dance/activity night of the year was last night, and students had a blast! It was well-attended, lively, relaxed, and a lot of fun. This edition of the LMS Express is full of little glimpses into the busy days that are the norm here at school. Students are active participants in their learning, teachers continue to seek out innovative ways to connect students to the content, and we have a respectful school culture that encourages all of it.
Trimester 1 ends this week! Hard to believe we're already a third of the way through the year. Time certainly is flying while we have fun.
Be well,
Tom

Weather Reminder
As temperatures start to drop, especially in the mornings, a quick reminder - students will be expected to be outdoors prior to the start of school and during recess if the temperature "feels like" 15 degrees or higher. At LMS, we believe that fresh air and sunshine (even when it's chilly) is a valuable part of a positive school day, and we strive to get students at least a small amount of time outside. Please remind students to dress accordingly, and thanks for your help with this.

Honoring Our Veterans
Last week, LMS honored our veterans. Mr. Terry played the Star-Spangled Banner for the whole school during the morning announcements, the student council decorated our school with flags, and we recognized our staff members that are veterans: Dan Schachtner, Rob Robbirds, Jim Mitchell,, and Patric Fenton. Our gratitude goes out to these folks and all our veterans.
Pictured above are some of the cards that Mr. Renninger's art classes made. Mr. Renninger delivered these cards to the VA.

Students have been learning about personal financing and investments in Financial Literacy! This week students have explored the Stock Market through various simulation activities. Through an online activity, STAX, and a whole class activity students were able to investigate risks and trends in stocks and make educated decisions.
Students are also learning about the differences between checking and savings accounts, as well as various ways to save and invest money. After choosing a career path, students have the opportunity to learn about the value of money and decide how to spend their money wisely.

Mrs. Lemelin's class has been having lots of fun learning about matter. Our scientists have been exploring the properties of matter and what makes substances different from one another. This helped us to make a claim about a mystery powder we were given. Scientists completed 4 tests to support their claim with evidence. They also looked at ice balloons and continued to learn about physical and chemical changes.

LMS Trail Cam
Thanks to Ms. Zito's idea, and funding provided by the LMS PTO, the LMS Trail Cam is catching some great pictures of wildlife around the school. These pictures are displayed on the hallway screens around the building, and staff and students are always pleased when a new picture makes the rotation. Thank you, PTO!
NH Forest Career Field Day
The Forest Career Field Day was created to educate students in grades 7-12 about the various careers available in forestry, wildlife, and natural resources, conservation and the forest products industry. Through hands-on demonstrations and exhibits provided by individuals and companies from the fields of wood technology, logging, forest and wildlife management, conservation and law enforcement, forest engineering, technology, and sawmill operations, students will be able to gain a greater understanding of the opportunities that may be available to them. This program is a partnership between NHTOA, UNH Cooperative Extension, and the Conservation Fund. This partnership also addresses the labor shortage and develops job shadowing and apprenticeship programs within the industry for students.

LISTEN Holiday Baskets
The LISTEN Center is now accepting applications for the 2024 Holiday Baskets.
This year, holiday baskets will consist of three (3) winter clothing items and a 50-dollar grocery gift card. The online registration link will be available beginning September 30th.
All applicants will first be added to an interest list in the order that their registrations are received. From this list, households will be matched with sponsors. Completing this application does not guarantee you will receive a Holiday Basket.
LISTEN can only guarantee you will receive a Holiday Basket once you are matched with a sponsor. A LISTEN staff member will notify you once your household is matched with a sponsor.
At that time, you will receive details on how and when to pick up your Holiday Basket. This year, the Holiday Baskets will be distributed early to mid-December.
Click here to apply for a LISTEN Holiday Basket.
If you or someone you know would be interested in sponsoring a Holiday Basket, please click here, or share that link with them. And thank you!
