Cohasset High School Newsletter
News and Happenings at Cohasset High School
May 8 , 2026
Dear Families,
Apologies for a slight delay on the newsletter, but I hope everyone had a lovely and well-deserved Mother's Day. Teaching in many ways is like a secondary type of parenting in the sense that over the years you watch students grow and overcome challenges and hope that your guidance and support is enough to be one of the many resources they have in life to become the best version of themselves. Unlike parenting, many times we don't see the final outcomes of the choices that our students make throughout their journeys.
But every now and then, we do. And those communications are some of the most encouraging messages we can get as educators.
Just recently two of our staff received emails from former students. One is working at the University of Pennsylvania in the athletics department and noticed that we had a student on the roster for the elite Penn Relays (congratulations to Nick! Picture below). He reached out to Coach Rotondi to offer help with whatever we needed and the sense of pride that came through encountering CHS along his longer life trajectory was a reminder that his experience here was memorable and valuable.
A second teacher, Ms. Sugrue, received an email from a student studying landscape architecture and design and wrote to thank her for the opportunities created through the Art Magazine. She is currently working on her thesis that addresses "the spatial, material, and social conditions that allow people to develop a real sense of belonging in the built environment, and what would it mean to design those conditions on purpose rather than leaving them to chance?"
It's a wonderful pursuit that speaks directly to the three pillars of what we hope for the graduate: inspiring character, purposeful growth, and being a part of something bigger than yourself. The student writes, "I was thinking back to my time at CHC and how much being part of the Cohasset Art Magazine meant to me and the fact that some of my artwork was commented on by my peers, which later gave me the confidence to include it in my college portfolio. . . .I believe that what you created for us students was extremely special during my years at CHC and I just wanted to reach out and say hello and say thanks."
Those little communications aren't so little, and provide a sense of renewed energy and peace that our work is helping to shape a more ethical, more responsible world. To to the teachers at Teacher Appreciation Week, thank you. Not just because I value what you do every day, but because your students do.
Sincerely,
Brian T. Scott
Principal
Help Wanted
Prom Night 2026 is quickly approaching, and we are looking for assistance from the Cohasset school community to help us celebrate our seniors with an unforgettable Pre- and Post- Prom experience!
Please consider volunteering for a slot at the famous Red Carpet Pre-Prom Event or (for our night owls!) a slot at the Post-Prom Party that will be held from 10PM to 2AM OUTSIDE OF COHASSET!
This is also a wonderful opportunity for parents of younger/underclass kids to “pay it forward” - as you too will someday be getting ready to send your kids to prom!

Cool Science Art Exhibition Celebration
Ninth grade student Sophia DeSalvo was honored as a runner up honoree last Saturday at UMass Lowell's Cool Science Art Exhibition Celebration in Chelmsford, MA.
Artist Statement “Help Increase The Green Infrastructure
Sophia DeSalvo
I addressed the challenge question in my artwork by showing three ways that we can increase the green infrastructure in urban heat islands. In my work, I am trying to show that by making rain gardens, planting more trees, and inputting rainwater harvesting in houses can help increase the green infrastructure. I created my artwork the way I did because I wanted to create detailed images of the helpful things we can do to increase the green infrastructure.
The art competition encouraged me to work with colored pencils in a new way because I had to use them in a detailed way that makes the drawings look realistic. I hope that people look at my artwork and try to make an effort to do these things to help increase the green infrastructure in urban heat islands. I learned that creating rain gardens, planting many more trees, and making rainwater harvesting in homes can help decrease the amount of climate change in our world. My artwork inspired me to help more in my community to suppress the climate change happening around us.

Not Your Average Joes
In important news, congratulations to your 2026 Dodgeball Champions The Average Joes! The 8 members of this team (Anthony Simone, Mike Owens, Will Santacroce, Max Hession, Graham Simmons, Luke Sebestyen, Jack Gabriel, and Austin Soderberg) ended the freshmen winning streak and headed to lunch 5 minutes early!
Oh the Places We Went!
April vacation saw significant international travel as over 70 students travelled both to Europe as an intellectual and cultural experience and to Guatemala as part of a service trip offered through School the World. Two incredible experiential learning opportunities and our students were wonderful ambassadors. Thanks to all of our chaperones.
Similarly, the Girls' Lacrosse Team visited South Carolina and went undefeated. Who said school was on break?!
For photos of Guatemala, see here.
Paying it Forward
In preparation for the AP exams, students from Chemistry and AP Spanish visited fifth grade students at Deer Hill, where they received encouragement from the younger students and shared some of what they have learned since their time on the hill. Pictures can be found here.
